Sophomore Muni He earned a share of her first collegiate title, joining junior Robynn Ree with a final round 69 while freshman Alyaa Abdulghany and sophomore Allisen Corpuz were also under par to lead the USC women's golf team to its third straight season-opening win at the Minnesota Invitational at the Prestwick G.C. in Woodbury, Minn., on Tuesday (Sept. 12).

USC won at 26-under 838 (282-276-280), nine better than Michigan State (847), which held a one-stroke lead entering the final round. Purdue and Notre Dame tied for third at 854).

The Trojans' 26-under performance was its third-most under par total in a 54-hole tournament while He's 10-under 206 (70-67-69) tied for fifth most under par in program history.

"This was a great tournament and a new experience for the team in our first event in Minnesota," USC 22nd-year head coach Andrea Gaston said. "There was a lot of talent here and a lot of great performances. It was a fun tournament with some makeable holes, but still you have got to make your putts and we did.

"There weren't any expectations, but we just had fun, took one shot at a time, and they did themselves proud. We got it going in the second round yesterday and kept it up today. You had to think your way through the course and we hung in there the whole time. I think a win like this will bolster everyone's confidence."

He's final round two rounds are her first two rounds under 70 as a Trojan. She had three birdies Tuesday and had 12 for the tournament against just one double bogey in the first round. Her best 54-hole finish as a freshman was a tie for seventh.

"I'm very happy to be able to start off the season with a win, not only as a team this time but with my first individual title as well," He said. "It was a fun and challenging course and we couldn't be more excited for the rest of this season and the upcoming year."

USC, whose second round 12-under 276 tied for the program's fifth-most under par round, got a boost from Ree, who finished tied for third at 8-under 208 (71-68-69) thanks to a final round that featured five birdies with two bogeys.

Abdulghany completed a fantastic Trojan debut with a tie for 14th at 4-under 212 (72-69-71), posting two final-round birdies, while Corpuz tied for 17th at 2-under 214 (71-72-71) with four birdies today. Sophomore transfer Divya Manthena, also in her Trojan debut, tied for 46th at 6-over 222 (70-76-76).

The Trojans are off until playing in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the OIympic Hills G.C., in Eden Prairie, Minn., Oct. 1-3.
