USC Men Start Up ITA Southwest Regional Runs

The USC men's tennis team has another stint set for Malibu beginning this week, as the Trojans engage in action at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships from Oct. 18-22. USC will be fully represented at the event, with all 10 Trojans on the roster lined up for competition.

In singles, the Trojans have eight players stacked up in the draw, while four USC duos are lined up for the doubles draw. Last year's doubles semifinalists, Jack Jaede and Tanner Smith, are playing with new partners for this year's event. Smith and sophomore Daniel Cukierman are the No. 5 seeded pair in the draw, thanks to their No. 40 national ranking and 4-1 mark together this season. The top seeds in this year's tourney are the powerful pair of juniors Brandon Holt and Riley Smith. Ranked No. 2 in the nation, the duo has the No. 1 seed for these ITA regionals. Meanwhile, the doubles bracket also features two new USC doubles pairings in freshman-senior duos Bradley Frye / Laurens Verboven and Jake Sands/ Jack Jaede, seeded No. 6 and No. 7, respectively. All four Trojan pairs have byes for the opening round of doubles, starting their runs tomorrow in the Round of 32.

In singles, USC had two players reach the quarterfinals last season. Both Trojans are back for shots at another deep run, with seniors Jack Jaede and Logan Smith standing out as two of eight Trojans in this year's singles draw. The highest seed of the bunch is sophomore Daniel Cukierman, who is the No. 4 seed thanks in part to his No. 31 national ranking on the singles scene. Redshirt junior Jake DeVine is next, standing tall as the No. 8 seed. He's USC's winningest Trojan to date, holding a 10-2 singles mark in these early goings of the 2018-19 campaign. In addition to Jaede and Logan Smith, brothers Riley and Tanner Smith also have slots in the singles draw, as do USC freshmen Bradley Frye and Jake Sands. All eight Trojans have first-round byes in singles, advancing through to tomorrow's Round of 64.
