Sophomore Allisen Corpuz and freshman Alyaa Abdulghany each fired 2-over 73s to lead the No. 10 USC women's golf team in the opening round of the spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday (Feb. 11) at the Palos Verdes (Calif.) G.C.

The Trojans, featuring a revamped lineup with four new faces on the spring roster after the loss of two All-Americans to the professional ranks following the fall season, are the defending champions of the event but finished the first round tied for sixth at 11-over 295, 10 back of Pac-12 rivals Arizona and Arizona State. USC is three back of third.

Corpuz and Abdulghany are tied for 19th after the first round, five back of the lead. Corpuz, the only Trojan on last year's roster, had four birdies today while Abdulghany had three. Abdulghany and sophomore Divya Manthena, who tied for 39th after a 4-over 75, join Corpuz as the only holdovers on USC's roster from the fall season.

Three spring enrollee freshmen made their debuts today, led by Australian Gabi Ruffels, who is tied for 32nd after a 4-over 74 that saw her birdie two holes. North Carolina native Jennifer Chang, tied for 39th at 4-over 75, and New Zealand native Amelia Garvey, tied for 61st at 6-over 77, are the others. Also new this semester is sophomore transfer Aiko Leong, who came over from BYU.

USC will tee off in the second round at 9:33 a.m. with UCLA, Duke and Alabama, a quartet of arguably the top four schools of the past 10 years.
