Baylor Tops the Women of Troy in the Desert

The USC women's tennis team lost to No. 28 Baylor 4-0 at the BNP Paribas Open Collegiate Challenge in Indian Wells, Calif. on Saturday (March 17). With the loss, the Trojans are now 8-5 on the season.
USC scored first as the pair of Kulikov/Valdes defeated Baylor's Sorokolet/Hinajosa 6-2 on court one. The Bears tied it up when Van Zyl/Testa beat USC's Smith/Weissmann 6-2 on court two. After a very close battle on court three, Baylor came out on top when Shakraishcuk/Sujova defeated Branstine/Westby 7-6 (5) to claim the doubles point.
USC entered singles at a one-point deficit.
Baylor notched anther point on the scoreboard in singles when Livia Kraus beat USC's Constance Branstine 6-2, 6-1 on court six. On court five, Madison Westby fell to Baylor's Jesica Hinajosa 6-2, 6-4. The Bears only needed one more point to clinch the match.
On court four, USC's Angela Kulikov won her first set 6-4, but lost the second set 0-6 to Baylor's Angie Shakraishcuk. In the third set, Kulikov was injured and forced to retire which gave Baylor the final point to clinch the match.
USC's next action brings them back to Marks Stadium for a three-match homestand. The Women of Troy will face Pepperdine on Wednesday (March 21), Washington State on Friday (March 23) and Washington on Saturday (March 24).
