Junior holds 1-stroke lead; Freshman Kaito Onishi goes 1-under in 2nd round.
Junior Justin Suh fired a 2-under 70 while freshman Kaito Onishi churned out a 1-under 71 to lead the USC men's golf team during the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas on Tuesday (March 6).
USC, the two-time defending champion, sits at a combined 7-over 583 (293-290) after 36 holes, tied for eighth and nine back of first-place TCU.
Suh is first at 6-under 138 (68-70) following his 15th round under par in 19 outings this year and his 18th round of par or better. The NCAA's top-ranked player bogeyed 2 and 4 in a 1-over front nine but birdied 12, 17 and 18 on the back 9.
The top-ranked player in the NCAA is after his fourth win this season and his seventh top 9 in as many events.
Sophomore Cheng Jin is tied for 29th at 2-over 146 (70-76) while Onishi is tied for 48th at 5-over 149 (78-71), moving up the ladder after his three-birdie performance.
Freshman Issei Tanabe is tied for 56th at 6-over 150 (77-73) and sophomore Kyle Suppa is 74th at 11-over 155 (79-76).
Final round action is set for Wednesday. USC will tee off at 9 a.m. with Suh hitting his first ball at 9:40 a.m.
