No. 12 USC Opens Four-Game Home Stand This Week
March 06, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse, Features
The Women of Troy have won 22 consecutive games at McAlister Field
LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC lacrosse team (2-2) opens a four-game home stretch with a match-up against No. 4 Boston College (7-0) on Wednesday, March 7, at 3 p.m. PT. The game is the Trojans' fourth straight against a ranked opponent and their second against a foe ranked in the top five.
Â
On Saturday (March 10), USC will play its first-ever Pac-12 conference game as host to first-year program Arizona State (5-1). The Women of Troy have won 22 straight games on McAlister Field and have not lost a home contest—including games played at the LA Memorial Coliseum—in their last 25 outings.
Â
While USC has never faced the Sun Devils, the Trojans have never beaten the Eagles in three previous tries. It was Boston College that eliminated USC from the 2017 NCAA tournament quarterfinals last May. The game was played in Chestnut Hill, Mass., so the Trojans will take the field with revenge as an outlying motivating factor. No single team has ever beaten USC more than three times in a row. BC, Denver, and Northwestern are the only programs to have won three straight with only the Eagles' streak still intact.
Â
Senior All-American defender Lydia Sutton (8gb, 6ct) and All-Region senior goalie Gussie Johns (9.00 gaa, .500) lead the Trojans. Midfielder Kerrigan Miller's (8g, 2a, 9dc, 6ct, 3gb) all-around game leads the attack. After graduating over 200 goals from 2017, USC turns to midfielder Kaeli Huff (4g, 2a), attacker Gabbi Klein (4a, 2gb, 2ct), and a host of underclassmen and transfers to power the offense. Kelsey Huff (9g, 1a) and Maeve McMahon (7g, 2a, 10dc) have made immediate impacts. Defender Jackie Gilbert runs the center circle (18dc) for the Trojans. Sixth-year head coach Lindsey Munday owns a 71-32 overall record.
