USC Women's Tennis Falls to Arizona State 4-3

The No. 41 USC women's tennis team fell to No. 33 Arizona State 4-3 in a close match today (April 14) at Marks Stadium in Los Angeles. The Women of Troy are now 12-8 overall on the season and 5-4 in Pac-12 Conference play.
The match began at Marks Stadium with the Sun Devils coming out hot as Arizona State duo Slaysman/Fossa Huer defeated USC's Smith/Weissmann 6-2 on court two. Over on center court, Sun Devils' Hattingh/John-Baptiste upset Trojan tandem No. 32 Kulikov/Valdes 6-4 after a strong battle to claim the doubles point.
After losing the doubles point, the Women of Troy battled it out as Rianna Valdes claimed the first win for Troy with her 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sun Devil Ilze Hattingh on court three.
Over on court six, USC's Constance Branstine fell to ASU's Tereza Kolarova 7-5, 6-2.
USC's Angela Kulikov showed fighting spirit as she beat Sun Devil Taylor Calton 6-4, 6-1 on court four to tie up the match at 2-2 overall.
Up next, ASU's Sasa Klanecek pushed the Sun Devils ahead 3-2 with her 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Trojan Madison Westby on court five.
USC's Gabby Smith made sure the Trojans weren't out of the battle as she defeated ASU's No. 53 Lauryn John-Baptiste 6-2, 7-5 on court one to tie up the match at 3-3.
All eyes now were on court three as Trojan Becca Weissmann and Sun Devil Nicole Fossa Huergo were locked in battle. Fossa Huergo claimed set one 6-4, but Weissmann battled back in the second set to tie the score up at 6-6. In a nail biting tiebreaker, Fossa Huego came out on top to win 7-6 (6) and clinch the match for the Sun Devils.
USC's next action will take them across town to UCLA on Saturday (April 21) as they close out Pac-12 Conference play.
