Trojans four back of first heading into final day.
Freshman Malia Nam topped her impressive collegiate debut with a second round 6-under 66 while sophomore Jennifer Chang fired a 3-under 69 to lead the No. 6 USC women's golf team during a 9-under effort at the 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate at the Royal G.C. in Lake Elmo, Minn., on Tuesday (Sept. 18).
Â
The Trojans, who have won the tournament twice in four years, finished the second day in fourth at 15-under 561 (282-279), four back of first-place Duke, two back of Alabama and a stroke behind UCLA as the 12-team field finished the first round early this morning due to a weather delay Monday.
Â
Nam's 6-under second-round featured eight birdies, including a stretch of seven over nine holes between 14 and 4. She is tied for third overall at 9-under 135 (69-66), two off the lead.
Â
Chang moved into a tie for ninth at 4-under 140 (71-69) with her three-under effort that included four birdies and an eagle on the par 5 18th hole.
Â
Junior Allisen Corpuz is tied for 20th at 1-under 143 (71-72), her second round punctuated by a trio of birdies. Sophomores Alyaa Abdulghany (72-72) and Gabriela Ruffels (71-73) are tied for 24th at even.
Â
"It was another great round today with everyone in the mix," USC first-year head coach Justin Silverstein said. "Malia and Jennifer were able to capitalize on some fantastic ball striking and their under par scores kept us within striking distance of the leaders. We hope the weather cooperates and enables us to play tomorrow so we can make a run at the tournament title."
Â
USC will tee off at 7 a.m. PT with Texas and Arkansas, the field hoping to dodge expected thunderstorms in the area.
