USC Faces Harvard in Orlando Invitational Third-Place Game On Sunday

The USC Trojans (6-2) will face the Harvard Crimson (5-3) in the Orlando Invitational third-place game at the HP Field House in Orlando, Fla. on Dec. 1 at 3:00 p.m. PT.  The game will air on ESPN2 with Ted Emrich and Andy Kennedy calling the action. Â
GONE FROM GALEN -- USC is in the midst of playing 8 of 10 games (1-1) away from the Galen Center. USC has these three games at the Orlando Invitational (Nov. 28, Nov. 29 and Dec. 1), then at TCU to open Dickies Arena on Dec. 6, home vs. Long Beach State on Dec. 15, at Staples Center (in L.A.) vs. LSU on Dec. 21, home vs. FGCU on Dec. 29, then the Trojans will open the new year and the conference season with three road games - at Washington St. (Jan. 2), at Washington (Jan. 5) and at UCLA on Jan. 11).
BREAKING DOWN HARVARD -- Harvard (5-3) is coming off an 80-73 loss to Maryland in the semifinals on Nov. 29. Bryce Aiken leads Harvard with a 23.8 scoring average. Eight Harvard players are averaging 6.6 points or more per game. USC defeated Harvard 103-76 on Dec. 28,1990 in the only previous meeting between the two schools.
USC SHOT DOWN BY MARQUETTE -- Behind 51 points from Markus Howard, Marquette defeated USC 101-79 in the Orlando Invitational semifinal on Nov. 29. USC led early at 11-5, but Howard then went on a personal 11-0 run to give the Golden Eagles a 16-11 lead and USC trailed the rest of the way. The Trojans trailed 57-36 at halftime as Marquette made 55.9 percent of its shots before the break, including 66.7 percent from 3-point range (10 of 15). USC made 39.4 percent of its first-half shots and was 0-for-4 from 3-point range. USC trailed 53-23 at one point in the first half, but outscored the Golden Eagles 13-4 to close the half and 9-2 to start the second half to cut the deficit to 14 at 59-45 three minutes into the second half. USC was able to cut the lead to 13 at one point, but Marquette didn't falter and went on to the 22-point win. Isaiah Mobley led 4 Trojans in double figures with 15 points. Onyeka Okongwu and Elijah Weaver scored 12 points and Kyle Sturdivant added 11.
THAT WAS FOUL -- The semifinal game between USC and Marquette featured 58 total fouls and Trojans Onyeka Okongwu, Isaiah Mobley and Nick Rakocevic all fouled out. That was the most combined fouls in a USC game since 61 were called in the 3 OT game vs. Colorado on Jan. 29, 2015. It was also the most fouls in a USC regulation game since 58 fouls were also called in the game at Arizona State on Feb. 19, 2000.
TRIP TO TCU ON DECK -- USC will play next at TCU on Dec. 6 in Fort Worth, Texas in the augural basketball game at Dickies Arena. TCU is 5-1 and is led in scoring by Desmond Bane at 18.0 points per game. The Horned Frogs will host Illinois State on Dec. 3 before facing USC. TCU leads the all-time series with USC 2-1, winning last season 96-61 at the Staples Center on Dec. 7, 2018.
OKONGWU NEAR THE TOP OF THE CLASS -- Freshman forward Onyeka Okongwu ranks 10th among all NCAA freshman with an 16.8 scoring average. He also ranks 1st among all freshmen in free throws made (36), 3rd in blocks per game (3.13), T-4th in double-doubles (3), 8th in shooting percentage (57.6), 8th in offensive rebounds per game (3.13) and 10th in rebounds per game (8.4).
LONG-RANGE ATTACK -- Six of USC's opponents have made at least nine three-pointers in their games against USC, including the last five. Marquette made 14 three-pointers against USC on Nov. 29 to the Trojans' three for a 42-9 advantage in points from beyond the arc. In its first eight games, USC has made 48 three-pointers (6.0 per game) to its opponents' 75 three-pointers (9.4 per game). USC has been outscored by 81 points from three-point range this season for an average of 10.1 points per game.
BALANCE IS BEST -- All 10 available scholarship players on USC's team have had at least one nine-point scoring game this season.
