November 05, 2019 | Women's Golf, Features
The Trojans are third at 4-under after 36 holes.
Junior Gabriela Ruffels fired a season-best 3-under 70 while senior Allisen Corpuz posted a 2-under 70 for her ninth straight round under par to pace No. 4 USC in the second round of the Nanea Pac-12 Preview at Nanea G.C. in Kailua Kona, Hawaii, on Tuesday (Nov. 5).
The Trojans finished a combined 2-under 290 for the second straight day and are now third at 4-under 580, nine behind first and seven back of second heading into Wednesday's final round of the tournament and the fall schedule.
Ruffels broke out of a bit of a slump to record her first round under par in eight outings this season to move into a tie for 14th at par 146 (76-70). She got off to an inauspicious beginning after a double bogey on her third hole (7) in the shotgun start, but rallied to go 5-under the rest of the round.
Corpuz, meanwhile, continues to churn out the sub-par rounds and is now tied for second at 5-under 141 (70-71), one back of first. She was 3-under at the turn with three birdies and gave just one stroke back on the way home.
Looking for her third top 4 finish in a row, Corpuz boasts a stroke average of 70.11 during her stretch of nine straight rounds under par.
Junior Amelia Garvey climbed into a tie for 20th at 1-over 147 (74-73) with a par round. She began the day with a birdie on 4 and closed it with another on 3, adding birdies on 13 and 18 during her even afternoon.
Junior Alyaa Abdulghany, with two birdies today, is tied for 23rd at 2-over 148 (72-76) while sophomore Malia Nam is tied for 38th at 7-over 153 (74-79).
The tournament will begin the final round with a 9:30 a.m. PT shotgun start.
