Trojans Split Up For ITA Fall Nationals And SoCal Intercollegiates

USC men's tennis has eight Trojans dividing to conquer in two different individual tournaments this week. Starting today (Nov. 6), four players kick off competition in Newport Beach at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships. Tomorrow (Nov. 7), four other Trojans are slated for action at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. That event is run by USTA Southern California and takes place at USC's own Marks Stadium. Both events have their championship rounds set for Sunday (Nov. 10).

The two events fell on different weeks last year, and USC's Daniel Cukierman was a power to reckon with in both, winning the 2018 SoCal Intercollegiate singles title and reaching the singles final at the ITA Fall Nationals. This year, Cukierman returns to the ITA Fall Nationals event as the No. 4 seed in the singles draw while also pairing with teammate Mor Bulis in doubles. Cukierman and then-senior Tanner Smith teamed up in the doubles draw last year, reaching the quarterfinals in 2018. Bulis and Cukierman are joined by USC freshman Stefan Dostanic and senior Riley Smith in both draws in Newport Beach.

Meanwhile, back at Marks Stadium, senior Rae Lan is locked in for qualifying singles as he pushes to join a trio of Trojans in the main draw. It'll be the second appearance at the SoCal Intercollegiates for sophomore Bradley Frye, who reached the consolation singles final last year as a freshman. Fellow sophomore Jake Sands will he his first SoCal Intercollegiate competition, as will freshman Ryder Jackson.
