Suh Leads Trojans To 11-Under Opening Round At Amer Ari Invitational

Senior Justin Suh fired a 4-under 68 while sophomores Kaito Onishi and Issei Tanabe carded 69s to lead the No. 4 USC men's golf team in the spring-season opening round at the Amer Ari Invitational on Thursday (Feb. 7) at the Waikoloa (Hawaii) Kings Course.
The Trojans, riding a two-event win streak dating to the fall season, combined for an 11-under 277, good for a tie for fourth after 18 holes, 10 back of first-place Oklahoma State and eight back of Texas Tech.
Suh, who leads the Trojans in stroke average, posted his team-best eighth rounds in the 60s today with a five-birdie performance, including sinking birdies twice on back-to-back holes. He is tied for 12th, five shots off the pace. Suh's round is also his 11th of par or better in 13 tries.
Tanabe posted his sixth round in the 60s this year (and fifth in his last seven), Onishi his fourth, the duo tied for 20th overall. Tanabe had six birdies on the day, Onishi four.
Junior Kyle Suppa was also under par today and is tied for 41st at 1-under 71. Freshman Charlie Reiter finished the round tied for 53rd after his par round while senior Sam Kim, playing individually, is tied for 97th at 4-over 76.
Second round action continues Friday starting at 9:30 a.m. PT.
