USC Women’s Tennis Opens Pac-12 Conference Play

THIS WEEK
The No. 14 ranked USC women's tennis team travels to the desert to open Pac-12 Conference play. The Women of Troy take on Arizona in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday (March 8) at 12:30 p.m. PT and then make their way to Tempe, Ariz. to challenge Arizona State on Saturday (March 9) at 11 a.m. PT.
ORACLE/ITA RANKINGS UPDATES
In the most recent ITA team rankings (March 5), the Women of Troy elevated in the national rankings to No. 14. The ITA also released new singles and doubles rankings on March 6 and four Trojans now hold national ranks.
Freshman Salma Ewing fell to No. 45 after previously holding the No. 34 position. Three Trojans earned national ranks this week. Junior Angela Kulikov earned the No. 84 rank and broke into the national singles rankings for the first time in her career. Freshman Danielle Willson and sophomore Ana Neffa both reentered the national rankings holding the No. 118 and No. 120 ranks, respectfully.
In doubles, Angela Kulikov/Rianna Valdes jumped to the No. 13 rank after recording a major upset over UCLA No. 8 ranked pair of Andrews/Broomfield last week.
GOING STREAKING
Freshman Danielle Willson continues to ride a strong winning streak as she improved to nine straight victories. She also remains undefeated in dual matches (8-0). Willson is one of eight players in the Top 20 ranked teams to remain undefeated in dual matches with seven wins or more. Sophomore Ana Neffa holds a four-match winning streak of her own and Rianna Valdes and Angela Kulikov have each won three-matches in a row. In doubles, the duo of Kulikov/Valdes have won five-matches in a row.
SCOUTING ARIZONA
The Arizona Wildcats are 8-3 in the 2019 season. They currently do not have any singles or doubles players in the national rankings. Last week, they tallied three wins against BYU, UNLV and Portland.
SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE
The Arizona State Sun Devils have a 5-4 record. Cali Jankowski is their one ranked singles player locking in the No. 102 ranking. In doubles, John Baptiste/Hattingh are the No. 6 ranked pair in the nation. ASU's last match was a 4-3 loss to Ohio State on Feb. 23.
