USC Wins First Pac-12 Championship on 12-3 Decision Over Colorado

The Women of Troy earned the program’s third conference title and an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament
EUGENE, Ore. – The top-seeded USC lacrosse team (16-3) completed a 12-3 win over second-seeded Colorado (10-7) on Papé Field to claim the 2019 Pac-12 tournament championship on Sunday, April 28. The program's first Pac-12 title (third league tourney championship all-time) grants the Women of Troy an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

- Four Trojans were chosen to the all-tournament team including junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller, who was chosen as the tournament's most valuable player. She was joined on the 13-player team by sophomore defender Lizzy Wagner, junior attacker Izzy McMahon, and sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff.
- Miller had four points (1g, 3a) secured five draw controls and had four ground balls in the victory.
- McMahon scored four points (2g, 2a) and had one ground ball. Huff picked up her team-high eighth hat trick of the season (14th career) and Wagner was a major catalyst in the Trojans' stalwart defense.
- In goal, sophomore netminder Riley Hertford had 11 saves and three ground balls.
- For the Buffaloes, Miranda Stinson scored two goals but took 11 shots. Kate Burnside had four draw controls. Chloe Willard scored the other CU goal while Liz Phillips and Samantha Nemirov each had assists. In goal, Julia Lisella had nine saves.
- The Trojan defense held the Buffaloes scoreless for nearly the entire first half and led, 7-0, on goals from Miller, Huff (3), Concialdi, McMahon, and senior attacker Amanda Flayhan. Stinson's goal with 36 seconds to the break ended the drought. The defense allowed only eight Colorado shots and when the Buffs did shoot, Hertford collected six saves.
- McMahon scored her second to open the second half at 26:03 and junior attacker Hope Anhut had the ninth Trojan goal at 14:34. Freshman midfielder Katie Ramsay pulled off the trifecta when she caused a turnover, grabbed the ground ball, cleared the field, and scored the 10th USC goal of the day at 13:15.
- Colorado stopped the bleeding at 7:16 when Chloe Willard scored off a pass from Phillips, but Ramsay added another goal when she scored unassisted at 5:32. The teams traded free-position goals down the stretch to make the final score, 12-3.
- The Women of Troy are now the designated automatic qualifier to the NCAA tournament from the Pac-12. Selections into the 28-team bracket will be made and announced on Sunday, May 5, on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT).
- USC won the program's first Pac-12 tournament championship and were champions of the regular season as well. The Trojans previously won both the MPSF regular-season and tournament tiles in 2016 and 2017.
- The Women of Troy improved to 7-3 all-time against Colorado.
- USC moves to 6-2 in all-time games played in the state of Oregon.
- This win is the program's 20th all-time victory against a ranked opponent (20-29).
- The Trojans improved to 12-7 in all-time postseason games; 8-4 in conference tournament games (3-1 in the Pac-12 tourney).
