Title Sweep For Trojans At Battle in the Bay Classic

Mor Bulis will fight for the Milwaukee Classic singles title tomorrow.
USC men's tennis made it a clean sweep of titles at the Battle in the Bay Classic in San Francisco, with Brandon Holt claiming the singles crown and also pairing up with freshman teammate Stefan Dostanic for the win in an all-Trojan doubles title match today.
Day one of the action in San Francisco saw all four Trojans net victories, including the first career wins as Trojans for freshmen Dostanic and Ryder Jackson. The newcomers would fall in the Round of 16, but their senior teammates rolled on, with Holt and Riley Smith working their ways into an all-Trojan singles semifinal earlier today. Top-seeded and #5-ranked Holt would edge out Smith with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 decision that sent Holt on to the singles final. There, he'd meet up with Michigan's No. 2 seeded Ondrej Styler. Holt made a strong stand in the title match, topping Styler 6-2, 6-4 to secure his second trophy of the day out in San Francisco.
Earlier today, Holt and Donstanic — No. 3 seeds in the doubles draw — had claimed the doubles crown on an 8-2 win over Trojan teammates Jackson and Smith. Both pairs had emerged victorious in epic semifinal battles the day before. No. 4 seeds Jackson and Smith had edged out Oklahoma's Beiler/Genesen 8-7 (4) to punch their ticket to the title match, while Dostanic and Holt had their hands even fuller with a semifinal tiebreaker against No. 2 seeded and #2-ranked Texas Tech duo Thomson/Wynn. The Trojan pair pulled off a gutsy and intense 8-7 (12) win in their semi to fuel up for the final.
While all this has raged on in San Francisco, USC has had three other Trojans in action in Milwaukee. Sophomores Bradley Frye and Jake Sands both reached the singles Round of 16, while Mor Bulis has been on a tear out at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Aside from one three-setter in the singles Round of 32, sophomore Bulis has dispatched all his opponents in straight sets. With two more solid victories today, Bulis moves into the singles championship match tomorrow (Sept. 23) against Notre Dame's Richard Ciamarra.
