Six USC Women’s Tennis Players Earn All-Pac-12 Accolades

LOS ANGELES — Six Trojans from the USC women's tennis team have earned honors from the Pac-12 Conference, including two First Team recipients. Senior Eryn Cayetano and freshman Maddy Sieg have been named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, with redshirt sophomore Snow Han and freshman Emma Charney securing spots on the All-Pac-12 Second Team list. Junior Naomi Cheong and sophomore Grace Piper received Honorable Mention accolades.
No. 11 Sieg carries 27-2 overall singles record this season, going 17-1 in dual action. Carrying a three-match win streak, Sieg reached a career best singles ranking ahead of the beginning of the 2022-23 dual match season, debuting at No. 2 back in November. In Pac-12 singles action, the freshman went 9-1. Throughout the year, Sieg has beaten ten ranked opponents, including two in the top-15. This marks Sieg's first All-Pac-12 honors.
No. 43 Cayetano, meanwhile, earns her third Pac-12 Conference athletic honor by receiving placement on the First Team. The senior began the fall as the No. 1 ranked singles player in the country. This season, the Southern California native has tallied an overall singles record of 22-10 (11-7 dual) while playing primarily at the No. 3 position for the Trojans. Last season Cayetano earned First Team honors, an improvement from her Second Team accolades as freshman.
Freshman Emma earned her first Pac-12 postseason honor, boasting a 23-12 overall record. The Trojan rookie has clinched three matches for USC this season and has defeated three ranked opponents.
Redshirt sophomore Snow Han (12-15) received her second Pac-12 postseason honor as she was named to the Second Team. Han and Cheong are currently ranked No. 58 in doubles. Last season, Han also received Second Team accolades.

THIS WEEK
USC women's tennis is set to open up its 2023 NCAA campaign from Southern California, traveling just up the 101 to Malibu to take on UNLV in the first round of action on Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. Host No. 9 Pepperdine will face GCU on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. Winning teams will square off in the NCAA Second Round at 1 p.m. on Saturday (May 6) to fight for a ticket to the NCAA Super Regional at sites to be determined.
The eight teams that advance out of that round will head to the USTA National for the remaining rounds of NCAA competition taking place May 18-20. So, too, will NCAA Individual Championships be held at Complex, with singles and doubles competition running May 22-27.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
Following a historic run at the Pac-12 Championships, USC reemerged in the ITA's top-25, checking in at No. 24 in the team category. The Trojans also boasts two ranked singles players and three ranked duos.
Freshman Maddy Sieg led the way at No. 11, followed by senior Eryn Cayetano at No. 43. The Women of Troy also boast three ranked duos in No. 18 Cayetano/Sieg, No. 47 Grace Piper/Sieg and No. 58 Snow Han/Naomi Cheong.

SCOUTING UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, LAS VEGAS
UNLV is ranked No. 57 in the country coming out of the Mountain West Conference as conference champions. The Rebels are 19-3 this season, with an 8-2 record in conference play. UNLV has played three ranked opponents this season, with victories over No. 61 Colorado State, No. 42 San Diego State and No. 67 Fresno State. UNLV has no ranked singles or doubles players. The Trojans hold an 8-0 all-time series record against UNLV.
SCOUTING PEPPERDINE
Pepperdine is ranked No. 9 in the country, emerging from the West Coast Conference as conference champions this season. Pepperdine is 18-3 this season, with a 7-0 conference record and a 4-3 victory over the Trojans back in March. Pepperdine has four ranked singles players in No. 16 Janice Tjen, No. 19 Savannah Broadus, No. 34 Lisa Zaar and No. 117 Nikki Redelijk. The Waves also have two ranked doubles pairings, with the nation's top pair in Broadus and Tjen, as well as No. 59 Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Zaar. The Trojans hold the advantage in the all-time series against Pepperdine with a record of 43-22.

Unranked Grand Canyon enters the NCAA tournament after coming out of the Western Athletic Conference as conference champions. Grand Canyon is 15-9 so far this season, with a 6-3 record in conference play. The Antelopes only ranked match came back in January, when they lost 4-0 to No. 19 Arizona State. Grand Canyon has no ranked singles or doubles players. This tournament is the first time that the Trojans will play the Antelopes in program history.
