No. 9 USC Women’s Tennis Set for Pair of Nonconference Duals

Trojans travel to Malibu on Saturday for dual against No. 3 Pepperdine.
LOS ANGELES – The No. 9 ranked USC women's tennis team takes on a pair of nonconference opponents this weekend as it travels to No. 3 Pepperdine on Saturday, March 23 (12 p.m.) and hosts Hawaii on Sunday at 4 p.m.
USC is currently 12-4 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
The Women of Troy enter Malibu searching their first win over the Waves in 14 tries, most recently falling to Pepperdine in Seattle (7-1) during the ITA Indoor Championships.
Sunday is 'Kids Day' and will feature a handful of promotional activities including a kids 'SC' hat giveaway and a post-match poster signing session with USC senior student-athletes.

RANKINGS:
The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 9 in the country (ITA Computerized Rankings March 19). Just a few weeks back, USC checked in at No. 5 in the polls. Currently, four Trojans appear in the national singles rankings, with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 28 and junior Grace Piper locked in the No. 61 ranking. Trojan redshirt senior Snow Han claimed No. 93 spot and fifth-year Eryn Cayetano sits at No. 108.
The Women of Troy also boasts two ranked duos in No. 15 Cayetano and Charney and No.42 Parker Fry and Grace Piper.
SO FAR THIS SEASON:
The Women of Troy opened the 2024 season with a pair of home dual matches, defeating LMU (7-0) and UC Irvine (4-0) during a season-opening doubleheader on January 18.
USC then hit the road for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., defeating No. 21 Miami (4-2) and No. 17 Tennessee (4-2).
Following a fantastic kickoff weekend, Trojan sophomore Emma Charney was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Charney went undefeated in singles and doubles in Knoxville and delivered both clinchers.
USC traveled south on Saturday, Feb. 3, for a dual against No. 20 San Diego. The No. 16 ranked Women of Troy won three singles matches against the Toreros but ultimately fell 4-3 to USD, dropping to 4-1 on the season.
At the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, USC went 1-2 in matches, falling to then No. 1 UNC before rebounding to beat No. 21 ranked Washington. The Trojans capped their time at ITA's with a 4-2 loss to No. 6 Pepperdine.
USC bounced back on the road to wrap up February play, downing Michigan State 6-1 before upsetting No. 2 Michigan 4-1. Trojan Grace Piper was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 in singles and doubles (combined) and clinching the Trojans match against the No. 2 Wolverines.
Following a month on the road, USC returned home to face crosstown rival UCLA on Friday, March 1, falling to the Bruins 5-2. Naomi Cheong and Eryn Cayetano were the only two Trojans to record singles wins against UCLA.
The Women of Troy rebounded on Monday, March 4 as the Trojans beat the Gauchos 6-1 at home. After winning the doubles point, USC carried momentum into singles play, winning five straight matches before redshirt senior Snow Han fell on center court to her top-75 ranked UCSB opponent.
USC opened Pac-12 play at home, going 2-0 as USC beat #25 Washington and Washington State. Against the Huskies, the Women of Troy dropped the doubles point, but would rebound to claim the match 4-1. On Saturday against the Cougars, USC won the doubles point and four matches to take the match 5-2.
The Trojans continued the hot streak beating Arizona (5-2) and Arizona State (4-0) last weekend to remain undefeated in Pac-12 play.
SCOUTING PEPPERDINE:
No. 3 Pepperdine is 9-3 on the season after a recent 6-1 sweep over California on Sunday, Mar. 17, at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The Waves hold five ITA-ranked singles players, with Lisa Zaar leading at No. 6. Following Zaar is No. 8 Savannah Broadus. Next for the Waves is Janice Tjen, coming in at No. 58, followed by No. 86 Anna Campana, and finally No. 99 Nikki Redelijk. The Waves boast one ranked doubles pair in Janice Tjen and Savannah Broadus, sitting at No. 6.
SCOUTING HAWAII:
Unranked Hawaii is coming off a 2-4 loss against the University of the Pacific on Saturday, Mar. 16, at the University of Hawaii's Tennis Complex. Hawaii does not have any ranked singles or doubles.
