USC Men's Golf Tackles Back-to-Back Tournaments at The Goodwin and the Cowboy Classic

LOS ANGELES – The USC men's golf team will compete in its first back-to-back tournament stretch of the year, starting at The Goodwin Invitational (March 28-30) at Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco, and then heading to the desert to compete in the Cowboy Classic (April 1-2) at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.

The Goodwin, a three-day event beginning on Thursday (March 28), will be played at the 2020 PGA Championship host course, TPC Harding Park. The tournament will consist of three rounds of stroke play and will conclude on Saturday (March 30). In its 54th edition, the Stanford-hosted tournament looks to provide another exciting competition at an iconic venue.

In 2023, the Oklahoma Sooners took home the crown by a margin of 6 strokes at a score of 18-under over second place Georgia Tech. The Trojans, who are regular competitors at The Goodwin, closed out last year's rounds in San Francisco at 7th place with a score of 6-over.

The field at Harding Park will be the largest of the year thus far, consisting of 31 teams: Appalachian State, BYU, No. 20 Cal, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Clemson, Colorado, No. 15 Georgia Tech, No. 23 Georgia, Howard, Lipscomb, Arkansas Little Rock, Long Beach State, No. 24 Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Stanford, TCU, No. 7 Tennessee, UC Davis, UCLA, San Diego, USC, USF, Utah, Utah Tech and Washington State.

Originally designed in 1925 by Willie Watson and Sam Whitling, TPC Harding Park was significantly renovated in 2005 and since then has hosted 4 PGA Tour events and a Presidents Cup. It is ranked as one of the top public courses in California and is the 8th ranked TPC course in the country by Golf Digest, as well as being called San Francisco's "most famous muny". Sitting on the shore of Lake Merced, the course is lined with the region's iconic Cypress trees and features soft bunkers with complex undulating fairways. The course which will play in a par 72, 7,277 yards, featuring bentgrass greens and fairways sodded with a mix of Poa Annua, Bentgrass and Ryegrass.

The Cowboy Classic, a two-day event hosted by Wyoming, will be played in three rounds, with the first two taking place on Monday (April 1) and the final round on Tuesday (Apr. 2).

In last year's event, which was played at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz., San Diego State took home the crown in a tight finish, closing out the final round at 7-under, just 1 stroke in front of second place Kansas. Although the Trojans have never competed in this event, they are familiar with the course as they competed against ASU and UCLA earlier this spring at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes during the Copper Cup.

The field for the second event of the Trojans' road trip includes Air Force, No. 14 Arkansas, Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Iowa State, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Long Beach State, Northern Colorado, Southern Utah, St. Mary's, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UNLV, USC, UT Arlington, Utah State, Utah Valley, UTEP, Weber State, Wichita State and Wyoming.

Originally designed by the duo of Schmidt-Curley Design and Fred Couples, Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club was built in 2002 and is ranked as one of the top 100 resort courses in the US and is the No. 6 course in Arizona by Golf Week. The course sits on the Ak-Chin Native Reservation offering an Australian Sand Belt-style golf course alongside a scenic desert landscape. The tournament will be played on the "Southern Dunes' par-72 track which plays in 7,330 yards with a Bermuda playing surface.
