No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Kicks Off Pac-12 Play Against No. 25 Washington, Washington State

LOS ANGELES – The No. 11 ranked USC women's tennis team kicks off Pac-12 play this weekend as it hosts Washington on Friday, March 8 and Washington State on Saturday, March 9. Friday's match is set to begin at 1:30, while Washington State will face off against the Trojans at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
USC is currently 8-4 on the season and 3-1 when competing at home.
Saturday is 'Kid's Day' and will feature a handful of promotional activities including giveaways and a poster signing session with student-athletes following the match.

RANKINGS:
The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 11 in the country (ITA Computerized Rankings March 5). Just a few weeks back, USC checked in at No. 5 in the polls. Currently, four Trojans appear in the national singles rankings, with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 31 and junior Grace Piper locked in the No. 51 ranking. Trojan redshirt senior Snow Han claimed No. 88 spot and fifth-year Eryn Cayetano sits at No. 113.
The Women of Troy also boasts two ranked duos in No. 11 Cayetano and Charney and No. 36 Parker Fry and Grace Piper.
SO FAR THIS SEASON:
The Women of Troy opened the 2024 season with a pair of home dual matches, defeating LMU (7-0) and UC Irvine (4-0) during a season-opening doubleheader on January 18.
USC then hit the road for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., defeating No. 21 Miami (4-2) and No. 17 Tennessee (4-2).
Following a fantastic kickoff weekend, Trojan sophomore Emma Charney was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Charney went undefeated in singles and doubles in Knoxville and delivered both clinchers.
USC traveled south on Saturday, Feb. 3, for a dual against No. 20 San Diego. The No. 16 ranked Women of Troy won three singles matches against the Toreros but ultimately fell 4-3 to USD, dropping to 4-1 on the season.
At the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, USC went 1-2 in matches, falling to then No. 1 UNC before rebounding to beat No. 21 ranked Washington. The Trojans capped their time at ITA's with a 4-2 loss to No. 6 Pepperdine.
USC bounced back on the road to wrap up February play, downing Michigan State 6-1 before upsetting No. 2 Michigan 4-1. Trojan Grace Piper was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 in singles and doubles (combined) and clinching the Trojans match against the No. 2 Wolverines.
Following a month on the road, USC returned home to face crosstown rival UCLA on Friday, March 1, falling to the Bruins 5-2. Naomi Cheong and Eryn Cayetano were the only two Trojans to record singles wins against UCLA.
The Women of Troy rebounded on Monday, March 4 as the Trojans beat the Gauchos 6-1 at home. After winning the doubles point, USC carried momentum into singles play, winning five straight matches before redshirt senior Snow Han fell on center court to her top-75 ranked UCSB opponent.
SCOUTING WASHINGTON:
No. 25 Washington is 10-4 on the season and also opens conference play on Friday. Currently, there is one Husky in the ITA singles rankings - #67 Alexia Jacobs who is 14-4 in singles. Washington also has one ranked duo in #55 Alexia Jacobs and Astrid Olsen. Most recently, the Huskies fell to Ohio State 4-1 on the road (March. 3).
SCOUTING WASHINGTON STATE:
Washington State (8-2) does not currently have any ranked singles players or doubles teams and is unranked as a squad. The Cougs will face UCLA on Friday, March 8 before facing the Trojans on Saturday. Most recently, Washington State defeated Fresno State 5-2 in Pullman on Sat., March 2.
