No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Punches Ticket Into 2024 NCAA Tournament

Trojans to host first and second rounds at Marks Stadium.
LOS ANGELES – No. 11 seed USC women's tennis is set to open up its 2024 NCAA campaign from home this weekend, as the Trojans host Cal Poly in the first round of action on Friday, May 3 at 2 p.m. Grand Canyon and No. 23 San Diego will face off on Friday morning at 11 a.m. Winning teams will square off in the NCAA Second Round at 2 p.m. on Saturday (May 4) to fight for a ticket to the NCAA Super Regional at sites to be determined.
The eight teams that advance out of that round will head to Stillwater, Oklahoma for the quarterfinals through national championship. Matches will be played at the Greenwood Tennis Center May 17-19, with the singles and doubles finals to take place thereafter from May 20-25.

ITA RANKINGS UPDATE
The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 11 in the country (ITA Computerized Rankings April 23).
Currently, four Trojans appear in the national singles rankings, with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 30 and junior Grace Piper locked in the No. 62 ranking. Trojan redshirt senior Snow Han sits at No. 90 and fifth-year Eryn Cayetano claimed the No. 96 spot.
The Women of Troy also boasts two ranked duos in No. 23 Cayetano and Charney and No. 69 Parker Fry and Grace Piper.
REGULAR SEASON RECAP
USC wrapped up the regular season 17-7 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Sophomore Emma Charney led the Trojans in singles wins this season, tallying 29 so far. In doubles, the No. 69 ranked duo of Parker Fry and Grace Piper lead the way for the Trojans with 25 wins as a pair.
The Women of Troy beat five top-25 ranked teams this season, including No. 2 Michigan and No. 11 Cal on the road.
Pac-12 RECAP
No. 3 seeded USC women's tennis team reached the semifinals at the 2024 Pac-12 Championship tournament, winning their quarterfinal match against Washington (4-0) before falling to No. 3 [2] Stanford (4-2) in the semifinal. Stanford went on to capture the team title in the championship final.
CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES
The Women of Troy hold a 76-38 all-time record in the tournament. USC has won six national championships in all, including NCAA titles in 1983 and 1985 after the NCAA began its women's tennis championships in 1982. USC has won five National Singles Championships (1976 - Barbara Hallquist [USTA], 1977 - Barbara Hallquist [USTA], 1978 - Stacy Margolin [USTA], 1981 - Anna Maria Fernandez [AIAW], 1983 - Beth Herr [NCAA]) and two National Doubles Championships (1980 - Trey Lewis/Anne White [AIAW], 2013 - Kaitlyn Christian/Sabrina Santamaria [NCAA]).
In 2023, the Women of Troy were selected to compete in the NCAA Tournament where the Trojans beat UNLV 4-0 in the first round at Pepperdine. USC would eventually fall to host No. 9 Pepperdine 4-1 in the second round.
Trojans Maddy Sieg and Eryn Cayetano earned selection into the women's NCAA Doubles Championships in 2023 as the duo would go on a deep run into the semifinal and pick up All-America honors. Individually, Sieg made history reaching the Singles Championship semifinal as a freshman, earning All-American honors while becoming the first Trojan to reach both the singles and doubles semifinal in the same season.
SCOUTING CAL POLY:
Cal Poly is 13-8 on the season and unranked as a squad. Most recently, the Mustangs captured the Big West Conference to earn a berth into the NCAA tournament. Cal Poly downed Cal State Fullerton 4-3 to claim the title.
Currently, Cal Poly does not have any ranked singles or doubles.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO:
No. 23 San Diego is 16-7 on the season, most recently the Toreros fell to No. 6 Pepperdine in the WCC Championship match (4-0). Earlier this year, USC fell 4-3 to the Trreros in San Diego as the Trojans came up short in doubles and struggled to find their footing in singles.
Two of USD's singles players appear in the ITA's latest rankings – No. 63 Claudia De Las Heras (19-10) and No. 68 Mia Mack (17-7). They do not have any ranked doubles teams.
SCOUTING GRAND CANYON:
No. 58 GCU is 22-2 overall and riding a 13-match win streak. Most recently, the Lopes beat Tarleton State 4-0 to win back-to-back WAC Tournament Championships. The Lopes flew through the tournament without dropping a point by winning all three of their matches 4-0. No. 107 Natasha Puehse boasts a 25-6 singles record and is GCU's only ranked player in singles or doubles.
