No. 11 USC Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 13 Auburn In ITA Kickoff Weekend Regional Championship Final

LOS ANGELES – No. 11 USC women's tennis won the doubles point but came up short in singles, falling 4-2 to the No. 13 ranked Auburn Tigers on Sat., Jan. 25 at Marks Tennis Stadium.
The No. 7 ranked USC duo of Grace Piper and Lily Fairclough made light work of Auburn's No. 16 ranked pair of Hrastar/Bennett on center court, picking up a ranked win with an impressive 6-1 scoreline. The doubles point was on court three as Emma Charney and Parker Fry beat Auburn's Ava Esposito and Maria Garcia 6-2 to help the Trojans to an early advantage. USC's Sloane Morra and Jana Hossam led The No. 97 ranked Tiger duo of Refaat/Okutoyi 4-2 as play was suspended.
The Tigers pulled ahead moving into singles play, recording wins on courts one, three and four to move the score to 3-1 in favor of Auburn. Freshman phenom Jana Hossam, who clinched yesterday's match for USC, recorded the Trojans' lone singles point of the day. Hossam beat AU's Ava Esposito in a three-set thriller 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, giving USC a new lease on life. USC senior Parker Fry fought off multiple match points but ultimately came up short, falling to Auburns Alice Battesti 7-5, 6-4 on court six to solidify the win for Auburn.
With the loss, USC drops to 3-1 on the season and comes up just shy of an ITA National Team Indoor bid. The Trojans will return to action on February 15 against the University of San Diego at 12 p.m. PT
