USC Women’s Remains in Second at Alice and John Wallace Classic
February 16, 2025 | Women's Golf
The Trojans went a combined five-under par on the back nine, as it posted a three-under par round on day two
PALM DESERT, Calif. – USC women's golf remained steadily in second as it posted a three-under-par second round to push its tournament score to four-under-par (564) after day two at the Alice and John Wallace Classic on Sunday, Feb. 16, at the Monterey Country Club.
Three Trojans posted scores below par, as USC was once again one of two teams under par for the afternoon. The Women of Troy counted 69-69-70-73 (281), as they once again fell behind Oregon in terms of round scoring. USC trails the Ducks by 12 strokes, as Oregon is 16-under par as a squad.
Freshman Jasmine Koo and Bailey Shoemaker combined for the best score on the squad, as they were both two-under par. Koo's round pushed her into a tie for 7th, while Shoemaker's round shot her up the leaderboard, moving her 21 spots into a tie for 18th; Koo is two under par overall, and Shoemaker is one over par. The story of the field – and mainly for the Trojans – was the success of the back nine. Of the counting scores, the team was five-under par on the back nine and was two-over par on the front. That sentiment was translated to the top scorers as they both managed a 36 (E) on the front and a 33 (-2) on the back. Together, Koo and Shoemaker birdied two of the same holes – No. 12 and 16 – as they each had the same number of birdies and bogeys on each side: one birdie and one bogey on the front nine and three birdies and one bogey on the back nine.
Junior Catherine Park leads the team overall, as she was third on the squad today with a one-under-par round. Park was on a roll on the back nine with three birdies in the first four holes but slowed with two pars before double-bogeying No. 16. Park is tied for fifth after two rounds of play.
Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou was the last counting score for the Trojans as she carded a 73 (+2). The senior is even-par for the tournament and is tied for 12th in the field. Freshman Kylie Chong finished outside of the counting scores with a three-over-par round. Chong is seven-over par for the tournament and is tied for 44th.
Redshirt Junior Jiarui (Joyce) Jin ended her round eight over par and is tied for 77th at 13-over for the tournament.
USC returns to action tomorrow for the final round of the Alice and John Wallace Classic at 8:30 a.m. at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert, Calif.
