No. 16 USC Men’s Swimming and Diving Primed for First Big Ten Conference Championships

Trojans to compete against Big Ten competition beginning Wed., Feb. 26 in Minneapolis, Minn.
LOS ANGELES - The No. 16 USC men's swimming & diving team (3-2, 0-0 Big Ten) is set to compete at its first-ever Big Ten Conference Championships this week in Minneapolis, Minn. The four-day meet will run Wed., Feb. 26 through Sat., March 1 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. The entire meet will be streamed on B1G+.
Four Big Ten teams enter the meet in the CSCAA's top 25 rankings including No. 2 Indiana, No. 10 Michigan, No. 13 Ohio State, No. 16 USC and No. 24 Minnesota. Northwestern also received votes in February's CSCAA poll.
The Trojans finished fifth at the 2024 Pac-12 Championships. Last year, the Hoosiers "three-peated" at the Big Ten Championships, scoring 1,520 points to win the program's 30th conference title. This season, IU is seeking its fourth-consecutive conference team title.
PSYCH SHEET NOTES
The Trojans feature 24 entries that are top 16 seeds at the Big Ten Championships and 16 that are in the top eight. USC sophomore Krzysztof Chmielewski holds the No. 2 seed in the 200y fly and the No. 3 seed in the 1650y freestyle. He also has the No. six seed in the 500y freestyle and the 15th seed in the 100y fly. Michal Chmielewski holds the No. 4 seed in the 200y fly, the 11th overall seed in the 100y fly and the 15th seed in the 100y back. In the 200y backstroke, Griffin O'Leary holds the No. 8 seed.
USC is set to score in both breaststroke events, with Junhao Chan, Chris O'Grady and Ben Dillard seeded sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively in the 100y breaststroke. In the 200y breast, Dillard is seeded fourth, followed by O'Grady in sixth. Dillard also holds the ninth overall seed in the 200y IM. Sophomore Sanberk Oktar is ranked sixth in the 400y IM and 10th in the 200y IM.
Senior sprinter Artem Selin holds USC's top seed in the 50y freestyle at 13th. Fifth year senior Luke Maurer is ranked fifth in the 200y free, fifth in the 200y IM and seventh in the 100y free.
First year swimmer Oliver Sogaard-Andersen is the No. 3 seed in the 200y freestyle, the fifth seed in the 500y freestyle and the 12th seed in the 100y freestyle. Fellow freshman Diego Balbi also has the potential to score, holding the No. 16 seed in the 200y fly.
Four of USC's relays are also seeded in the top four - 400y medley relay, 400 free relay, 200y free relay and the 400y medley relay.

SO FAR THIS SEASON:
USC is 2-2 in duals this season. During the October home opener, the Trojans won the men's USC Invitational, defeating Hawaii. Troy claimed three out of four relays (400y medley relay, 200y free relay and 200y medley relay) and claimed multiple individual events at the invite.
In early November, the Trojans beat former Pac-12 rival Arizona in an additional home dual. Against the Wildcats, sophomore All-American Krzysztof Chmielewski blasted an 8:48.78 to win the 1000y freestyle for Troy – the sixth fastest time in the country at that point in the season. He also claimed the 200y butterfly (1:42.37) and 500y freestyle (4:22.86). USC sophomore Sanberk Oktar led a 1-2-3-4 Trojan sweep in the 200y IM, touching first in 1:46.65. Ben Dillard was second in 1:48.31, followed by Chris O'Gradyin third (1:49.05) and Luke Maurer (1:49.16) in fourth.
USC closed out fall competition at the Texas Hall of Fame Invitational, a meet that saw 21 Trojans record personal bests. All-in-all, Troy dropped a combined 78.19 seconds at the invitational. Also at the meet, Stanford graduate transfer Luke Maurer clocked a school record-worthy finish in the 200y IM, touching third in prelims in 1:42.57.
The Trojans resumed competition in early January against longtime Bay Area rivals No. 5 Cal and No. 8 Stanford. USC posted a slew of NCAA provisional cuts during the weekend of stiff competition but came up short of a team win.
USC wrapped up the regular season with a sweep over UNLV at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center. The Trojans powered past the Rebels 159-94 to finish 3-2 in dual competition.
