USC Rowing Advances All Boats to A Finals at San Diego Crew Classic

The Trojans earn second-place finishes in Saturday's regattas.
SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — The USC rowing team delivered strong performances across boat classes on Saturday at the San Diego Crew Classic, securing spots in Sunday's A finals in the V8+, 2V8+, V4+ and Novice 8+ events.
With a strong second-place finish in the first heat, USC's Varsity 8+ earned a spot in the A finals on Sunday. The Trojans' time of 6.29:748 was the third-fastest across both heats, and they are set to face Texas, Washington, California, Washington State, UCLA, UC San Diego and Notre Dame for the Cal Cup Collegiate Invitational.
Varsity 4+ was the next Cardinal and Gold showing on the water, crossing the line behind the No. 1 Texas Longhorns. The Trojans dug deep in a side-by-side close contest with Notre Dame and pulled ahead to nab the second spot of the event.
While the Longhorns had a 10-second margin to finish first, USC claimed a comfortable second-place finish in the 2v8+.
The last USC boat to compete and qualify for the A finals was the Novice 8+. In a battle of milliseconds against Washington, the Trojans collected USC's fourth second-place finish.
All four boats will return to Mission Bay for the A finals on Sunday. Trojan start times are listed below.

In the first heat of the V8+, No. 1 Texas finished first with an early established lead, holding open water for the majority of the race. USC secured second place after a neck-and-neck battle with Washington State. During the final 250m stretch, the Trojans and the Cougars exchanged bows, but USC edged half a second ahead to the finish. UC San Diego and San Diego rounded out the competition in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
