March 06, 2025 | Men's Basketball
The Trojans broke a five-game losing streak with this 31-point victory.
LOS ANGELES – The USC Men's Basketball team (15-15, 7-12 Big Ten) returned home for their final game in the Galen Center as they took on Washington. USC took control early in this game and kept it the rest of the way as they won this game against the Huskies 92-61.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Desmond Claude started off hot in this game as he scored the Trojans' first five points, which kept his team on pace with the Huskies. This continued after the first timeout as Rashaun Agee and Wesley Yates III sank two three-pointers of their own to give USC a one-point lead. The Trojans picked it up from there. They scored eight straight points while Washington went without scoring for more than four minutes. They didn't stop there. Another six-point run at the end of the first half pushed USC ahead by 12 as the score sat at 47-35 in favor of the Trojans.
Washington started the second half strong, going on a seven-point run over the Trojans. That run was all USC would allow. With the help of Desmond Claude and Saint Thomas, USC got back on top by 14. Once the Trojans built on their lead, they couldn't be stopped as the Huskies didn't score for more than three minutes. USC pushed ahead even more. By the time the game ended, the Trojans were up by 31 as they defeated the Huskies 92-51.
NOTABLES
Coach Eric Musselman on the team's performance against the Huskies…
"I thought we did a really good job, especially in the second half. When you have a player do what Chibuzo Agbo did tonight - going 7-for-10 from three, that's hard to do. He had 26 points, so he was phenomenal offensively, and Desmond Claude was phenomenal with the double-double. I am super proud of Saint Thomas as he passed 1,000 career points. I thought Rashaun was absolutely tremendous, especially in the first half. I thought that all the guys that checked in really contributed to the game tonight. Now we have a good game in Pauley Pavilion Saturday and we have to go try to win another game."
Coach Eric Musselman on senior Harrison Hornery's impact on the program…
"We talked to the team early in the summer. When all of this is said and done, and you look back 20 years from now, it's not going to be about who led us in scoring. It's not going to be about who played the most minutes. It's always about who you respect in that locker room and how they conduct themselves in the classroom, off the floor, and behind closed doors in practice. The way that Harrison exhibited himself and the way that he's represented himself is just as powerful as any guy who scores 30 points. He's been a huge part of our team chemistry. We, as a coaching staff, cannot thank him enough for the way that he's been a part of this."
Coach Eric Musselman on the importance of Saturday's matchup versus UCLA and the future…
"We have one more game to play and then hopefully we're still alive. We want to grow for next year, but right now we have another game left. Hopefully we'll be able to play in the Big Ten tournament."
Desmond Claude on the team's 24 assists…
"We were all playing unselfishly and making selfless plays. That's something we have learned from watching film as a team. If a player can make that one quick pass, a point five pass, then you have to do it. We hurt each other and the team if we don't."
Desmond Claude on bouncing back from a tough game…
"Everybody has an important role on this team. I don't like playing bad or having a bad game, but I had to bounce back. That's what players, at least what good players, do. The team needed me just as much as I needed them, and they supported me. They had my back and were positive."
Rashaun Agee on his energy tonight…
"It's just a DNA thing and trying to bring energy to the team in any way that I can. I'm trying to play to the best of my ability and do everything that I can to help the team win and play hard."
Rashaun Agee on the significance of tonight's win…
"The win was super important, especially because we have those seven seniors. The seniors expressed to us the importance of winning. We also came off a losing streak so it was a balance of wanting to win for them, but also wanting to get out of this slump and getting back into the win column."
