
USC Men’s Golf Battles High Winds on Final Day at Big Ten Tournament

Trojans finished 11th out of 18 teams at their first Big Ten Championships
TIMONIUM, Md. – USC men's golf concluded its time at the Big Ten Conference Tournament shooting 20-over par on the final day, putting them 27-over (288 + 279 + 300 = 867) overall. The Trojans dropped one spot on the leaderboard as high winds and Sunday pins got the best of the entire field. USC finished11th out of 18 teams in their first Big Ten Championship hosted at the Baltimore Country Club.
In the final round, USC counted scores of 73-74-75-78 (300), as junior Antonio Safa finished in front overall for the squad at six-over par, tying him for 23rd in the field. This is the junior's third top-25 finish of the season. No. 12 UCLA won the tournament at two-over par.
Freshman Jaden Dumdumaya had the best final round for the Trojans as he was three-over par, putting him eight over for the tournament. Once again, USC started from hole No. 10, and like the rest of the field, the Trojans had a tough time on the backside of the course. Dumdumaya posted a 39 (+4) on the back and completely flipped the switch with a 34 (-1) on the front nine. The freshman set the tone on the front early as his lone birdie on the afternoon was on the No. 1 par four. Dumdumaya closed his first Big Ten Championship in a tie for 32nd.
Freshman Jack Buchanan followed him as he posted a four-over-par 74, tying Dumdumaya in 32nd place at eight-over par. Buchanan had a back-and-forth day with one double bogey, two birdies and four bogeys. Senior Gavin Aurilia joined them as he finished at eight-over par for the tournament. The senior carded a 75 (+5) in the final round as he had two double bogeys and a bogey on the back nine but was able to right the ship on the front nine with an even par 35 to close out the round.
Safa was the last counting score for the Trojans, as he was eight-over par on the day. Nevertheless, the junior set himself up for success on the first two days, as he recorded his third top-25finish of the season, ending up six over par, tying him for 23rd.
Sophomore Jack Jerge rounded out the lineup, ending up 12-over par overall after an 80 (+10) in the final round. The sophomore ended up tied for 58th in the field.
USC will await its fate on the remainder of the postseason as the NCAA Selection Show is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. PST on Wednesday, Apr. 30, and will be streamed live on the Golf Channel.
