No. 18 USC Women’s Lacrosse Drops Home Game to No. 7 Maryland

CARSON, Calif. – No. 18 USC lacrosse (8-4, 1-4 Big Ten) fell to No. 7 Maryland (9-4, 4-1 Big Ten) 15-8 on Saturday, Apr. 5 at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The Trojans will head to the east coast as they will take on Rutgers in their lone Big Ten Network game at SHI Stadium at 2 p.m. PT on Thursday, Apr. 10 in Piscataway, N.J.

KEY PLAYERS:
- Redshirt sophomore Hannah Barron, junior Casey Roberts, and senior Maddie Dora lead the offense with two goals each.
- Senior Maddie Dora earned her 50th goal this game, a career-high for her and USC.
- Sophomore Emma Bunting posted her 17th goal of the season, redshirt junior Kailey Pelkey earned her first goal this year, and redshirt junior Callie Cirilli scored her third goal of the season.
- Freshman Charlotte Morton is now 1-3 for the season, as she allowed 11 goals and had two saves in the game.
- Senior Alexis Niblock led the team with four ground balls and two caused turnovers, while fellow senior Catherine Lord had three draw controls.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Trojans scored twice to start the game, both goals being within one minute of each other (14:05 and 13:14). They fought to stay ahead through a defensive battle, leading Maryland 3-2 with goals from Pelkey, Barron, and Dora.
- The offensive momentum was lost as the women of Troy struggled in the second quarter, going scoreless, while the Terrapins gained an eight-point lead of 11-3 to end the half.
- USC ended their scoring drought at 7:14 in the third quarter with a goal from Emma Bunting. Maryland would continue to outscore the Trojans 4-1.
- The Trojans would get on the board four more times before the game ended with goals from Barron, Roberts, Cirilli, and Dora, making the final score 15-8.
