May 14, 2025 | Men's Golf
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – USC men's golf closed the gap on the final day with a three-under par final round, but fell one spot short of a bid to the NCAA Championships Final. The Trojans ended with a total team score 866 (+2) as they placed sixth out of 14 teams on Wednesday, May 14, at the Seminole Legacy Golf Club.
The Trojans surged to start the day, as they were six under par through the front nine, moving into the mix for the final qualifying spot. USC would eventually count scores of 68-69-73-75 (285, -3), ending its tournament two-over par for the thtree rounds. The host school, Florida State, won the tournament, while Augusta earned the final qualifying spot at three-under par.
"I'm proud of team. They knew we needed a great score and we really came out focused and ready to go. They showed a lot of grit today and I really believed we were going to overtake the leaders and qualify with 9 holes to play, said Coach Mark Hankins. "Bad closing 9 on our first round or we would have punched our ticket. As this team continues to grow and believe in themselves and their teammates, we won't have those poor opening rounds in the future. Overall it was an awesome ride, coaching these guys and seeing the improvement over the entire season."
Freshman Jaden Dumdumaya was the team leader for the Trojans, finishing two under par overall after a one-over par, 73, final round. Dumdumaya recorded his best career finish, as he tied for 16th in the field. An eagle on hole No. 4 highlighted the freshman's round, as he reached the green in two and rolled it in from 15 feet out to earn his third eagle of the season. Dumdumaya would bogey three more holes, and par the rest for the remainder of the round.
Freshman Jack Buchanan tied for the third-best round in the field, after posting a 68 (-4) in round 3. Buchanan eagled the same hole as Dumdumaya – ten minutes earlier – as he also posted a three on the par five No. 4. The freshman had two birdies on the front side and two on the back nine, as he limited mistakes with two bogeys on the day. Buchanan ended up one under par overall, tying him for 19th, giving him his third top 25 finish of the season.
Sophomore Jack Jerge finished one-over par, as he had the second-best final round with a 69 (-3). Jerge recorded five birdies in the first 11 holes, before bogeying three-straight and following it up with two-straight birdies. Jerge would record one more bogey – No. 18 – as he moved up 15 spots into a tie for 27th.
Senior Gavin Aurilia was the last counting score of the afternoon as he was three-over par on the final day, making him five-over par and putting him into a tie for 39th. Junior Antonio Safa was seven-over par for the day, finishing him 12-over par, and tying him for 57th.
