USC Women’s Golf Falls to Florida State in NCAA Quarterfinals
May 20, 2025 | Women's Golf
CARLSBAD, Calif. – USC women's golf wrapped up its run in the NCAA Championships, falling 3.5-1.5 to No. 4-seeded Florida State in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Tuesday, May 20, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
The Trojans had one player win in the matchup, as freshman Kylie Chong took home a dominant 6&5 victory. Chong led from the beginning, claiming three of the first four holes with one bogey, a par and a birdie. The freshman posted a stellar back nine, recording four birdies, including three straight to end the back half – holes No. 16-18. Her opponent would get one back with a par on hole No. 1, but Chong would earn it back with a win on No. 3, before finalizing her day with a birdie for the win on No. 4.
FSU earned two quick points before Chong's point came in third, as senior Xin (Cindy) Kou dropped her match 5&4 and freshman Jasmine Koo fell 4&3. Kou's opponent won two straight holes starting at No. 13 and 14, as the senior recorded back-to-back bogeys. Kou would drop three more holes in a row – No. 18 through No. 2 – to finalize her score. Koo went down early after hitting her second shot in the water on No. 11 and would end her back nine behind by five holes. The freshman would fight back to start winning two of the next three, but that wasn't enough, as she wrapped up her first season on No. 6.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker ended her season with a 3&1 defeat. Shoemaker would get an early advantage on the ANNIKA Award Winner (Mirabel Ting) – Player of the Year – as she won holes No. 10 and 14 to go up by two. After that, Ting would earn the subsequent five-hole victories, as that point would conclude the overall match.
The Trojans are now 6-8 all-time in NCAA Championship Match Play.
USC ends its season with four tournament wins, five individual wins, and a top-eight finish at the NCAA Championships.
