LOWELL, ORE. — The USC women's rowing team posted a strong showing at the Oregon State Invitational, with four boats crossing first in their respective races out at Dexter Lake Reservoir.Â
With glassy water and gray skies, the Trojans demonstrated their strength across various categories. USC's 3V8+, 2V4+, V4+ and 3V4+ all secured first-place finishes, and the 2V8+ and V8+ boats delivered competitive performances in their races against boats from Oregon State, Sacramento State and San Diego.Â
While the day featured several close races with the Beavers on their home waters, the 3V8+ and V4+ proved especially dominant. Both boats held significant separation against the competition for more than half of their race.
Overall, USC continues to build momentum as the team prepares for the upcoming Big Ten Championships, running May 17-18 in Indianapolis, Ind..
Full results and lineups from today's racing at the Oregon State Invitational are below. Here's how each Trojan boat performed:
3V8+
USC's 3V8+ settled into a comfortable and dominant base pace, pulling seats ahead of Oregon State. The boat broke away for open water at the three-minute mark and held significant open water for more than half of the race. The Trojans sailed through the finish line first at 7:26.07.
2V4+
USC and Oregon State split off from the rest of the pack early in the 2V4+ race, with the Trojans edging out a deck and a seat over the Beavers at the 750m mark. The two maintained contact into the last 1,000 meters, but USC came out with a five-second margin of victory.
V4+
All boats kept in close contact with each other for the first 500m of the race, but USC's V4+ made a definitive move halfway through the race. The second boat remained in contact, but the Trojans only widened the gap with its even pace. USC held three boat lengths of open water coming into the last sprint and finished first in a time of 7:59.80.
2V8+
With some chop on the water, the 2V8+ race saw another clash between the Beavers and the Trojans. The two boats kept in close contact for the last 500m, rowing stroke for stroke. With 100m left, USC fought its way to gain seats back, ultimately crossing the finish line second at 7:15.28.
V8+
USC's V8+ settled into its base rhythm and sought to close the margin of open water over Oregon State. In the final 500m, the Beavers maintained their pace to defend home waters. USC finished second with a time of 6:54.16, eight seconds faster than the next boat.Â
3V4+
In the last event of the regatta, USC took an early lead and kept it. The Trojans held open water for the majority of the stretch. With a first-place time of 7:51.59, USC crossed the finish line 12 seconds ahead of the second boat.
