USC Baseball Returns to Dedeaux Field for Start of 2026 Season

THIS WEEK: The USC baseball team begins the 2026 season on Friday, returning to Dedeaux Field for the first time in two years as they host a three-game series against Pepperdine. LMU will also come to Dedeaux on Tuesday night for a midweek matchup.

2026 HOME GAMES: After two seasons playing the majority of its home games at Great Park in Irvine, USC returns home to the new Dedeaux Field. The project, which features a brand new stadium, clubhouse, training facility and offices for the program, is still ongoing and will be completed after the conclusion of the 2026 season. Despite certain elements of the stadium still being under construction, USC will welcome fans into Dedeaux Field this season, with all home games being free and open to the public. Temporary concessions and restrooms will be available all season long. Seating will be first come first serve. For more information visit USCTrojans.com/baseballgameday.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS PEPPERDINE: USC is 19-17 all-time against the Waves. This series marks the first meeting between the two programs since 2021, when the Waves defeated the Trojans 5–2 at Dedeaux Field. USC enters the matchup looking to snap a two-game losing streak against Pepperdine.

100 WINS AT USC FOR STANKIEWICZ: USC Head Coach Andy Stankiewicz achieved his 100th career win at USC in a 6-5 walk-off win against Washington at the 2025 Big Ten Tournament. Stankiewicz joins Hall-of-Famer Mike Gillespie as the only coaches to reach the 100-win mark in their first three seasons at the helm for the Trojans. Through three seasons, Stankiewicz now holds a record of 102-74-1 and a 52-37 record in conference play. In his three years at USC, Stankiewicz has also led the program to its first run of three straight 30-win seasons since 2000-02, and the first back-to-back-to-back Top 4 finishes in the conference standings since 2000-02. USC is one of just 13 power four schools with 50+ conference wins over the last three seasons (52). For his career as a head coach, Stankiewicz owns a career record of 443-313-3 over 15 seasons.

- USC finished last season with 37 wins, marking the highest total since Stankiewicz took over the program.
- USC's run of three straight 30-win seasons is the first such run since 2000-02 under Hall of Fame coach Mike Gillespie.
- The Trojans' 102 wins over the last three years are the most in a three-year stretch since 2001-03.
- USC's third straight Top 4 conference finish was the first such streak since 2000-02.
- The Trojans' 18 conference wins were the most since Stankiewicz took over, and USC's 52 conference wins over the last three years are the most in a three-year span since 1998-00 (54), while also being the 7th most among all Power 4 schools.
- 1997-99 was the last time a USC team has won at least 17 conference games in three consecutive seasons (17, 21, 17). The Trojans have won 17, 17 and 18 over the last three seasons.
- USC's run of eight straight series wins over the course of the season was the longest such streak for a Trojan team since 1978.
- The Trojans' 2025 NCAA Regional appearance was the first postseason appearance for the program since 2015. USC made the regional final before falling to the hosts Oregon State.
2025 RETURNER NOTES:
- Andrew Lamb returns for his junior season after spending time catching as well as at both corner outfield positions for the Trojans. He slashed .300/.371/.564, with 33 hits in 110 at bats. He scored 28 runs and tallied 10 doubles, two triples, and five home runs. Lamb also earned the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award after establishing himself as a leader for the Trojans in his sophomore season.
- Abbrie Covarrubias batted .302 with 32 RBI and 39 runs scored as a sophmore. He hit three homers, two triples and 11 doubles, while also leading USC with 15 stolen bases. Covarrubias was at his best during Big Ten play, posting a .333 batting average with 14 RBI, 16 runs scored and nine extra base hits during conference action. He earned All-Big Ten third team and All-Corvallis Regional Team honors.
- Adrian Lopez returns to the Trojans after coming in as a sophomore transfer from LBSU. He made 58 appearances and 56 starts in his first year as a Trojan. Lopez hit the first home run of the season for USC, with a grand slam in the first inning on Saturday of opening weekend. In the 10th inning against Washington in final game of play at the Big Ten Tournament, Lopez launched a three-run homer to secure the victory for the Trojans. Overall, he slashed .329/.400/.550 and ranked 3rd in the Big Ten, 36th in the nation with 21 doubles.
- Augie Lopez returns as a sophmore after earning himself a regular spot in the lineup as a designated hitter as last season progressed, overall finishing the season with a .284 batting average in his rookie campaign. Lopez posted 14 RBI, 10 runs scored, seven doubles and three homers on the season, making 26 starts and appearing in 42 total games. He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
- Jack Basseer returns for his senior season after slashing .287/.351/.513 in 2025. Basseer appeared in 44 games and made 36 starts in the outfield, hitting 7 homers, 11 doubles and 1 triple, with 27 RBI. Basseer was named to the All-Corvallis Regional Team after hitting .333 in postseason play.
- Richard Tejeda returns for his junior season after serving as the Trojans' catcher most of last year. Tejeda slashed .268/.341/.317, had a .989 fielding percentage and caught 7 runners stealing.
- Mason Edwards looks to step into the Friday role for USC this year. Edwards posted a 3.86 ERA in 32.2 innings pitched in 2025, striking out 46 batters while walking just 13. Edwards made 7 relief appearances and 5 starts last year, pitching to a 3-0 record, with opponents hitting just .204 against him.
- Andrew Johnson was stellar for the Trojan pitching staff, becoming one of USC's most trusted arms on the mound during his freshman season, pitching to a 4.41 ERA as both a reliever and starter. The rookie righty also did his best work against Big Ten foes, compiling a 3.49 conference ERA with 20 strikeouts and just three walks in 28.1 innings pitched. Johnson's overall walks per nine average of 1.71 was second in the Big Ten and his strikeout-to-walk ratio of 4.42 was also fourth in the conference. Johnson was named to the the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
- Grant Govel was another strong contributor on the mound as a freshman in 2025, making 20 appearances, 4 starts and tossing 48.1 total innings. The righty had 45 strikeouts and posted a 3-2 record. He looks to step into a role in the weekend rotation.
- Sax Matson returns for his junior year after making the most appearances for the Trojan pitching staff last season. His 26 appearances were 4th most in the conference. Matson had 39 strikeouts in 27.1 total innings pitched, with opponents hitting .234 against him.
