CAREER:  In his 4-year career (3 years at Wyoming and 1 year at USC) he has 115 tackles, including 20 for losses (with 14 sacks), 3 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 2 pass breakups and 1 QB hurry while appearing in 37 games with 11 starts.  
2023: Byrd will compete for playing time at rush end as a redshirt senior in 2023. 
2022:  Byrd, who transferred to USC in the fall of 2022 from Wyoming, tallied 28 total tackles, including 7 for loss of 45 yards (with 4 sacks for losses of 28 yards). He also had 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 QB hurry and 1 pass breakup while contributing to USC’s defensive line in all 14 games with 4 starts.
 
He had 4 tackles, including 2 for loss (with 2 sacks) and 1 pass breakup against Stanford. He recorded 4 tackles, including 2 for loss (with 1 sack), 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery against Fresno State. He tallied 3 tackles and 1 QB hurry at Oregon State. He collected 2 tackles, including 0.5 for loss, against Arizona State. He had 2 tackles, including 1 for loss, against Washington State. He notched 1 tackle, including 0.5 for loss, at Utah. He had 1 tackle at Arizona and 2 tackles against California. He accumulated 4 tackles against Colorado. He had 2 tackles, including 0.5 for loss, at UCLA. He tallied 2 tackles, including 1 for loss (with 1 sack), against Notre Dame. He had 1 tackle in the Pac-12 Championship game against Utah. 
 
WYOMING:  He had 37 tackles, including 3.5 sacks, while appearing in 8 games (with 6 starts) as a redshirt junior defensive end in 2021.  He had 6 tackles against Ball State (with a sack), UConn (with 1.5 sacks), Air Force and Fresno State (with a sack), 5 tackles versus New Mexico and 4 stops at Northern Illinois.  He missed Wyoming’s final 5 games due to injury. 
He opted out the 2020 season due to COVID-19. 
He earned 2019 FWAA Freshman All-American first team honors while appearing in 12 games (with 1 start, versus UNLV) as a redshirt freshman, getting 45 tackles, including 9.5 for losses (with a team-high 6.5 sacks), plus a team-best 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a deflection.  He had 7 tackles (with 2.5 sacks) against Nevada, 6 tackles (with 2.5 sacks) at Tulsa and 5 tackles against Idaho (with a sack) and Georgia State in the Arizona Bowl. 
He appeared in 3 games as a 2018 true freshman, making 5 tackles. 
HIGH SCHOOL:  As a 2017 senior defensive end and tight end at Knight High in Palmdale (Calif.), he had 60 tackles, including 10 for losses (with 9 sacks) and 4 forced fumbles on defense and caught 8 passes for 117 yards (14.6 avg) on offense.   
As a 2016 junior, he had 70 tackles, including 7.5 for losses (with 4 sacks), 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery on defense and caught 7 passes for 92 yards (13.1 avg) on offense.   
He made 25 tackles, with 3 sacks, and had a fumble recovery as a 2015 sophomore. 
Current Trojan Christian Rolland-Wallace also prepped at Knight. 
He also played basketball at Knight. 
PERSONAL:  He received his bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Wyoming in 2022.  He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Gerontology at USC with a 3.32 GPA. He and his wife, Taysia, have a young son, Messiah.
