BREAKDOWN:
Ari (AIR-ee) Stewart is a talented 6-foot-7, 205-pound forward who transferred to USC from Wake Forest and practiced with the team last season. He showed great athleticism and scoring ability in practice and will be a key member in the Trojans rotation. Stewart, a former top 50 recruit, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He will be joined this season on the team by former Wake Forest teammate J.T. Terrell.
2011-12:
Stewart served a redshirt season after transferring to USC from Wake Forest.
2010-11:
Stewart averaged 8.5 points and 4.4 rebounds in 32 games for Wake Forest. He started 16 games for the Demon Deacons and averaged 10.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in those games. He also scored in double figures 14 times with a career-high 18 points vs. VCU on Nov. 16, 2010. Opened the season with his first career double-double, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds vs. Stetson on Nov. 12. Pulled down 10 rebounds vs. Hampton on Nov. 15. He then led Wake Forest with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting to go along with seven rebounds vs. VCU on Nov. 16. Followed that up with 16 points and nine rebounds at Elon on Nov. 20. Scored 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds vs. Winthrop on Nov. 22. Finished with 14 points and five rebounds vs. Marist on Nov. 23. Played all 40 minutes, scoring 15 points and grabbing eight rebounds against UNC Wilmington on Dec. 12. Came off the bench to score 12 points and record three rebounds vs. UNC Greensboro on Dec. 15. Had 12 points and four rebounds on 4-of-9 shooting to help the Demon Deacons defeat Virginia on Jan. 29. Came off the bench to score 12 points and pull down five boards vs. Florida State on Feb. 19.
2009-10:
In his first season at Wake Forest, Stewart averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds and led all ACC freshmen in three-point shooting with 43 made and a 37.1 shooting percentage. Stewart made 72 three-point baskets in his two seasons at Wake Forest. He was also named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the Week of Dec. 14, 2009. Made his collegiate debut vs. Oral Roberts on Nov. 13 and went 4-for-8 from the floor with two three-pointers made to finish with nine points. Scored a season-high 17 points at Gonzaga, going 4-for-4 from three-point range.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Stewart was ranked the No. 8 small forward and the No. 43 overall prospect in the class of 2009 by Scout.com out of Wheeler High in Marietta, Ga. He was also ranked the No. 10 small forward and the No. 52 overall prospect by ESPN in that class. Stewart was a three-time All-State honoree and earned first-team accolades as both a junior and senior. He led Wheeler to the 2009 Georgia 5A state title, scoring 21 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in the championship game. Wheeler finished the season ranked No. 7 in the country in the final PrepNation poll. He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds as a senior. As a junior, he averaged 16 points and eight rebounds and led Wheeler to a 30-3 record and a No. 21 national ranking. Attended Roswell High (Ga.) as a freshman. Was named MVP at the 2009 Reebok All-American Game in Washington, D.C. Played on the U.S. All-Stars team at the 2009 Charm City Challenge in Towson, Md. Was a member of the 3.0 GHP Club in high school.
