BREAKDOWN: Vincent Iwuchukwu is a 7-1, 240-pound sophomore forward who can score the ball, plays hard the entire 94 feet of the court and is an elite defensive presence in the paint. He is the fourth five-star bigman USC has brought in during its last five recruiting classes.
2022-23: Iwuchukwu missed USC’s first 16 games, but averaged 5.4 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14 games, 5 starts. He also had 14 blocks to tie for third on the team. Iwuchukwu suffered a cardiac arrest on July 1 which kept him out of action until he began limited practice in December. He made his collegiate debut with 12 scoreless minutes vs. Colorado on Jan. 12. Scored his first 4 career points and registered his first career block and steal at Arizona on Jan. 19. Had 4 blocks & 5 points vs. Washington State on Feb. 2. Scored 8 points and had 6 rebounds at Oregon on Feb. 9. Scored career-best 19 points and grabbed career-high 7 rebounds at Oregon State on Feb. 11...went 9-for-9 from FT line. He missed USC’s final regular season game, Pac-12 Quarterfinal and NCAA Tournament game with a sore back. He had lumbar discectomy after the season and is expected to be back during the first half of the 2023-24 season.
HIGH SCHOOL: Iwuchukwu is a 2022 graduate of Southern California Academy in Castaic, Calif. His teammate and fellow Trojan Oziyah Sellers was also on SCA and they helped lead the SCA Rams to a 24-4 regular season ranking and a No. 10 national ranking. He began his season at Montverde Academy in Florida. He was ranked as the No. 16 overall recruit by Rivals.com and began the season as a consensus top 15 national recruit in the Class of 2022 by all major scouting services. As a junior, Iwuchukwu played for La Lumiere in Indiana where he averaged 15 points, 11 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game. He also averaged 9.8 points and 7.0 rebounds for La Lumiere at the NIBC Invitational. He then averaged 19.3 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 12 games on the Nike EYBL circuit with the Drive Nation grassroots program in July. At the 2021 Peach Jam, Iwuchukwu averaged 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 55.4 percent from the field. In August of 2021, he led the invite-only Pangos All-American Camp in scoring (22 ppg) while shooting 58 percent from the floor in addition to posting 9.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 blocks a game. At the NBPA Top 100 Camp in June of 2021, Iwuchukwu led all players in field goal percentage (.750) and finished third in rebounding and fifth in blocked shots. He began his high school career at Cole HS in San Antonio and helped lead them to the 2020 UIL 3A state title. Was selected to the Jordan Brand National team and in the Jordan Classic scored 16 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, had 2 steals and 2 blocks.
PERSONAL: Vincent was born on April 17, 2003 in Manheim, Germany…His parents are Anastacia and Vincent Sr. Iwuchukwu and he has four siblings, Vivian, Vanessa, Kosi and Muna...His father was in the military....Vincent is a native of Imo State, Nigeria and basketball didn’t become a focus for him until his freshman year of high school, was more of a soccer player until then...He started playing basketball to kill time while in Korea for three and a half years while growing up....His favorite musical artist is J.Cole...His sports heroes are Giannis Antetokounmpo for his Nigerian roots and Kobe Bryant for the inspiration to play...Someday would like to travel to Japan...Is a Business/Communication major at USC.
