THIS YEAR:Â
Sophomore Lucy Westlake is in her second season as a distance runner on the USC track and field and cross country teams.
2022-23:  Westlake was USC’s top finisher at all three cross country meets in which she competed.  She opened the season by placing 11th with a time of 19:09.8 at the 5K Mark Covert Classic on Sept. 3.  She then led USC with a time of 22:02.9 at the 6K UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17.  She then led USC and set a 6K PR of 21:37.8 at the Pac-12 Championships on Oct. 28.  Westlake did not compete during the track season due to injury.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Westlake graduated from Naperville HS in 2021 where she was a distance runner with bests of 10.57.98 in the 1600m and 17:39.34
in the 5000m races. She also had a cross country PR of 17:22.04 in the 5K race. November 7, 2021, She set a personal best in a 3-mile race with a time of 16:55.54 at the Illinois Girl’s Cross Country Class 3A State Championships, to place ninth and help her team to a seventh-place finish on Nov. 7, 2021. She is also known for her mountain climbing exploits which earned her an ESPY in 2022. Westlake, who graduated a semester early, became the youngest American woman to reach the top of Mount Everest on May 12, 2022. She has now reached the summit of five of the seven highest mountains on each continent: Kilimanjaro (Africa), Elbrus (Europe), Denali (North America), Aconcagua (South America), and Everest (Asia). She is also an elite triathlete in the USA Triathlon Junior Elite Series and was named a 2018 and 2019 USA All-American in the event. She was involved in student government all four years of high school, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a National Hispanic Scholar.Â

Lucy was born on Nov. 4, 2003 in Eagle Harbor, Mich...Her parents are Amy and Rodney Westlake and she has one younger brother, Jack...Her hobbies include art, photography, traveling and mountaineering...Her favorite actor is Jennifer Lawrence, favorite musician is Macklemore and favorite movie is Avatar...She loves to cook and her favorite foods are smoothies and sushi...She volunteers with WaterStep installing safe water systems in rural villages throughout Uganda and Kenya... and with AWE Summit Scholarship Foundation to help close the gender gap in the sport of mountaineering… After college she plans to continue running to see how far she can go in the sport and setting more world records in mountaineering... She is a Public Policy major at USC with the goal of becoming a global policy leader in the water sector.
