THIS SEASON
Now entering her final season at USC, Meagan Holmes stands out as the Trojans[apos] ever-dependable anchor in the back. Her calm and knowledgeable presence is coupled by a fearless ability to get her head on the ball.
2008: Returning from last season[apos]s knee surgery, Holmes got back to her defensive role and started 15 of the 16 games in which she appeared... Was sidelined for a stretch during the middle of the season due to injury, but returned for Pac-10 play and to help the Trojans make another trip to the postseason.
2007: Holmes suffered an ACL tear after starting the first five games of the year, sidelining her for the remainder of the season... Had scored one goal in USC[apos]s win over UC Santa Barbara... Granted a redshirt season due to the season-ending knee injury sustained against Georgia on Sept. 14.
2006: Once again, Holmes helmed a powerful Trojan defense that generated a program-high 14 shutouts on the year... Started all 21 games as a sophomore... Scored two goals, providing the second goal in wins over Harvard (Sept. 3) and Eastern Washington (Sept. 15)... Named to All-Pac-10 Second Team and was twice selected to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week.
2005: Holmes started on defense for USC in all 21 games in her freshman year... Received All-America honorable mention from SoccerTimes... Selected to SoccerBuzz[apos]s Freshman All-America First Team as well as the West Region All-Freshman Team... A member of the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team, and earned All-Pac-10 honorable mention... Scored twice and took nine shots... First career goal came in a 6-0 win over Indiana on Aug. 28... Scored again in a 2-0 win over Colorado on Sept. 9.
NATIONAL TEAMS: A member of the U.S. under-20 team that placed first at the 2005 CONCACAF Women[apos]s U-20 Qualifying Tournament in Mexico... Made the U.S. under-19 team for the 2004 FIFA U-19 World Championships in Thailand, helping the team to a bronze medal... Played in five games at U-19 Worlds, giving her a total of seven international caps... Played for the under-17s in 2003 and 2004 and under-16 squad in 2001 and 2002.
HIGH SCHOOL: Holmes was the No. 3 top recruit in the nation in 2005 according to SoccerBuzz...Ranked the No. 2 defender in the nation by Student Sports and No. 5 overall player... Named to the All-State First team her freshman, sophomore and junior years... Played just one game of her senior year due to national team commitments... An All-South selection in 2001 and 2002 and named an NSCAA All-American in 2003... With her club team, Bethesda Excel, she won state and regional titles in 2003 and 2004 (U-16 and U-17)... Her U-16 club team finished second in the country, and was third as U-17... In 2005, her U-18 team reached the national championship game and lost to USC teammate Amy Rodriguez[apos]s club team in overtime... Named to the Baltimore County/All-City Academic Team in 2002 and was an honor student all four years at Dulaney High... Also competed in indoor track as a freshman and sophomore... Her U-18 Bethesda Excel club team was a 2005 state and regional champion, marking Holmes[apos] sixth club regional title.
