USC Takes Fourth at Lake Natoma Invitational

GOLD RIVER, Calif. - The fourth-ranked USC women's rowing team finished in fourth place at the conclusion of races at the 2014 Lake Natoma Invitational on Sunday, April 13. The Women of Troy took third place in each varsity race against sixth-ranked Brown and top-ranked host California. The Trojans' novice eight raced in the grand final but finished fourth behind Cal's top novice boat, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
The Trojans' varsity eight boat of Vineta Moca at stroke, Krisztina Gyimes, Madara Strautmane, Keret Einaste, Madelyn Walters, Elizabeth Turner, Lindsay Gibson, and Svenja Jonas was coxed by junior Paige Fernandes. The Golden Bears had the edge in the top division and finished with a time of 6:23.0 ahead of Brown (6:27.4) and USC (6:32.3).
USC's second varsity eight boat was coxed by junior Kellyn Freire with Deirdre Fitzpatrick at stroke followed by Darian DiCianno, Eglit Vosu, Jelena Miladinovic, Kajsa Olsson, Rebecca Shaffer, Kamali Houston, and Shelby Adair at the bow seat. The 2V8 finished with a time of 6:39.8 behind Brown (6:31.6) and Cal (6:35.1).
The Trojans' varsity four of Katherine Gleadow at stroke, Gitta Kivilaan, Frederike Hackenbroch, and Sara Bilimoria was coxed by freshman Kaelyn Ibold. Brown won with a time of 7:19.4 ahead of Cal (7:27.0) and USC's time of 7:28.8.
USC's novice eight boat was coxed by Aly Scharpf. Marygail Dibuono sat at the stroke seat followed by Stephanie Griep, Brianna Morris, Karina Batek, Sophia Mitropoulos, Megan Linney, Anu Rajendran, and Lauren Hanano at the bow. Racing in the division's grand final, the novice crew finished with a time of 7:18.2 behind Oklahoma (7:12.8) in third, Kansas (7:05.8) in second, and Cal's top novice boat's time of 7:00.2.
The Women of Troy have a weekend off between races before they return to the Bay Area for a dual against Stanford at Redwood Shores on Saturday, April 26.
