Mulcare Finals In 200 Back, Trojans Finish 13th At NCAAs

Freshman Patrick Mulcare finished eighth in the 200y back in his first career NCAA A final while the Trojans got scoring from multiple other swimmers to close the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta on Saturday (March 26).
USC finished 13th with 117 points. Texas won the team title with 541.50.
Mulcare, the Pac-12 champ in the 200y back who broke Lenny Krayzelburg's long held school record in the event at the conference meet, finished eighth in the event tonight in 1:40.22. He got into the A final after a 1:39.68, which was just 0.04 off his school record. It was only USC's second A finalist in the 200back since 2000.
Sophomore Pawel Furtek was the first Trojan to get on the board tonight, scoring his first NCAA points with a 10th in the 1650y free timed final with a personal best 14:48.90, which was less than a second off a top 8 finish.
Sophomore Ralf Tribuntsov scored for the first time in the 100y free, reaching the B final thanks to a 42.51 in prelims. He finished seventh in the B final and 15th overall with a 52.96.
Junior Steven Stumph, the two-time Pac-12 champion in the 200y breast, won the B final of the event for a career-best ninth place in 1:53.99. Freshman Carsten Vissering notched his first scoring swim, taking 16th overall with a 1:56.00 after a 1:54.73 in prelims to earn a second race.
In prelims, senior Ted Singley was 27th in the 1650y free (15:04.13), sophomore Jon Knox was 32nd in the 200y back (1:42.59), junior Reed Malone was 44th in the 100y free (43.94). Freshman Alex Valente posted a personal record 1:43.79 in the prelims of the 200y fly to finish 21st, less than a second off the B final cut.
Seniors Collin Pollard and Deon Reid closed their career collegiate careers on platform today. Pollard, who on Thursday earned his first career All-American honor on 1-meter, finished 22nd on platform (347.00) while Reid was 24th (344.55). Sophomore Dashiell Enos also competed, taking 27th (337.40).
USC closed the meet in the B final of the 400y free relay, as Tribuntsov, Mulcare, junior David Morgan Jr., and Malone finished seventh in 2:53.73.
