It was more of the same in the third set, as the score was close until late when the Cardinal notched the final 4 points while hitting .433. USC jumped out to a quick 4-1 edge in the fourth set and extended it to 9-4 before the Cardinal charged back, scoring 3 straight to go up 16-15 and then tallying 4 out of 5 points for a comfortable 22-19 margin (Stanford had 3 aces and 15 blocks in the set). USC turned a 3-1 deficit in the fifth set into an 8-5 lead and the Cardinal couldn't catch up as Troy hit a perfect 1.000.
USC returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 10) when it hosts No. 7 BYU at 7 p.m. PT in the Galen Center in another MPSF contest.
