USC Set for Sun Devil Rematch in Pac-12 First Round

The Women of Troy carry the third seed into the inaugural Pac-12 Tournament
LOS ANGELES – No. 20-ranked USC lacrosse (9-7, 6-4 Pac-12) earned the third seed and will face sixth-seeded Arizona State (6-11, 1-9) in the first round of the inaugural Pac-12 Lacrosse Tournament on Thursday, April 26, at 4 p.m. MT (3 p.m. PT) at Prentup Field in Boulder, Colo. The Women of Troy won each of the last two Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament titles (2016-17) and need just one more victory to reach the 10-win plateau for the fourth straight season.

Among newcomers, Kelsey Huff (25g, 5a), Izzy McMahon (28g, 9a), and Maeve McMahon (15g, 13a, 38dc) have made immediate impacts. Sophia Donovan has also been a spark with her 12 goals (4a, 8gb, 3ct). Crease defenders Morgan Kuligowski (14gb, 10ct) and Natalie Byrne (16gb, 8ct) are each integral parts of the Trojans' defense, which ranks first in the Pac-12 with 8.62 gaa. SCOUTING REPORT - ARIZONA STATE: The Sun Devils (6-11, 1-9 Pac-12) finished sixth in the final Pac-12 standings in the program's inaugural season and enters the conference tournament on a five-game losing streak. ASU has lost 10 of its last 11 since opening the year winning five of six contests. The Devils are led by Kerri Clayton who has scored 42 goals and collected 15 assists for 57 points. Emily Glagolev has 34 points (20g 14a) and is among the eight Devils who have scored double-digit goals this season. Maddy Hunter has won 53 draw controls and ranks third in the Pac-12 at 4.42 per game. In goal, Berkeley Bonneau has a .416 save percentage and is third in the league with 8.35 saves per game. ASU leads the Pac-12 at 10.60 saves per game as a team. Bonneau leads her team with 53 ground balls while Hunter ranks second with 38. Hunter also has a team-high 19 caused turnovers. Rachel Gregory serves as another defensive anchor with 21 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers. The Trojans swept the season series against the Sun Devils with a 14-3 win at McAlister Field on March 10 and a 19-2 victory on April 21 in Tempe, Ariz. LAST TIME OUT: USC dominated its final regular-season game to earn a 19-2 road win over Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. The victory secured a third-place finish in the Pac-12 and the third seed in the Pac-12 tournament, which set up an rematch with the sixth-seeded Sun Devils. In their first-ever game in the state of Arizona, the Trojans out-shot the Devils, 41-10. ALL-AMERICAN GIRLS: USC has celebrated six IWLCA All-America selections through five years as a program. Michaela Michael was the first-ever All-American selection as a third-teamer in 2015. Michael and defender Courtney Tarleton were each named to the first team in 2016, with midfielder Amanda Johansen chosen to the third team. Michael repeated her first-team honors in 2017 and defender Lydia Sutton earned third-team honors.

PAC IT UP: USC won the 2016 and 2017 MPSF (Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) championships but plays under the banner of the Pac-12 Conference in 2018. Women's lacrosse became the 13th women's sport sponsored by the Pac-12 when it was added for 2018. With the addition of Arizona State, the Pac-12 reached the minimum of six teams to receive an automatic qualifier bid into the NCAA championship. The first-ever Pac-12 Lacrosse Championship will be held April 26-29 at Prentup Field at University of Colorado. From the end of 2015 to the middle of the 2018 season, USC won a school-record 22 consecutive conference games. The Trojans were undefeated in the MPSF in 2016 (9-0) and 2017 (8-0).
