Corpuz 69, Ruffels 70 Pace No. 1 USC In Northrop Grumman Second Round

Trojans tie for second-lowest second round, but still sit fourth.
Junior Allisen Corpuz fired a season-best 2-under 69 while sophomore Gabriela Ruffels carded a 1-under 70 to pace the No. 1 USC women's golf team Monday (Feb. 4) in the second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes G.C.
USC, a three-time winner this fall and a four-time winner of the tournament, sits 12 strokes back of first after combining for a second-round 4-over 288, tied for the second best round of the day. Still the Trojans are fourth at 19-over 587 (299-288) as Stanford leads at 6-over 574. UCLA sits second at 12-over 580 with Texas third at 18-over 586.
Corpuz (77-69) and Ruffels (76-70) are tied for 14th at 4-over 146, both bouncing back with strong efforts in the second round. Corpuz sank four birdies today, all during a seven-hole stretch between the ninth and 15th holes. Ruffels also had four birdies, including three on the back 9.
Sophomore Jennifer Chang is tied for 23rd at 6-over 148 (75-73) after her 2-over second round that saw three birdies. Sophomore Amelia Garvey is tied for 25th at 7-over 149 (71-78) while freshman Malia Nam is tied for 56th at 12-over 154 (78-76).
USC will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the final-round shotgun start.
