Trojans 10th after 18 holes of Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.
Junior Amelia Garvey fired a season-best 2-under 69 to lead the No. 4 USC women's golf team during the spring-opening round at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge on Sunday (Feb. 9) at Palos Verdes G.C.
Â
The Trojans finished the first round in 10th in the 16-team tournament that features 12 teams ranked inside the top 20 and another inside the top 45. Auburn is the only team under par at 1-under.
Due to a mid-round rain delay, four teams failed to finish the first round and will complete their final holes Monday ahead of the 9 a.m. PT second-round start.
Â
Garvey's 69 is good for a tie for third after 18 holes, three off the lead. She posted four birdies on the day, the only blemish a double on 17.
Â
Junior Gabriela Ruffels hovered around even for most of the round, which is where she was before a couple late bumps left her with a 4-over 75, tied for 39th.
Â
Junior Alyaa Abdulghany and senior Allisen Corpuz are tied for 49th at 5-over 76 while sophomore Malia Nam is tied for 63rd at 7-over 78. Senior Aiko Leong, playing individually, is tied for 74th at 10-over 81.
