October 01, 2023 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team posted its third shutout in the last four games and moved to 3-0 in Pac-12 play with a 3-0 win over Washington on the road on Sunday afternoon.
Izzy Kimberly put USC ahead early and the Trojans broke things open midway through the second period as USC improves to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in conference action. Washington falls to 5-4-2, 0-3.
Kimberly struck in the 6th minute, making a nifty move to the center before firing a shot from near the top of the penalty area. It was Kimberly's first goal of the season. Zoe Burns recorded her team-leading fourth assist on the play as well.
Florianne Jourde and Helena Sampaio scored in the span of two minutes in the second half, with Jourde making it 2-0 in the 74th minute and Sampaio following in the 76th minute. Jourde's goal was her second of the season and came thanks to an impressive individual effort to get free in the box and score. Sampaio linked with Kimberly and Kayla Duran for her beautiful strike, giving her three goals on the season. USC has had 10 different players score so far this season.
The suffocating USC defense held Washington to just six shots in the game and only one on target. The Trojans also conceded only three corner kicks on the afternoon. USC now has five shutouts on the year.
USC has won four in a row after the victory in Seattle and has outscored its opponents 10-1 over that span.
