USC claims its second tournament title of the 2023-24 season, with a combined team score of 843 (-9)
STANFORD, Calif. -Â Sophomore Catherine Park claimed her first career collegiate title as she posted a seven-under-par tournament total, as USC dominated on the final day to win the Stanford Intercollegiate by seven strokes on Sunday (Oct. 22) at the Stanford G.C. in Stanford, Calif.Â
Â
In a tournament packed with ranked teams, including the No. 1 ranked Stanford Cardinal, the Trojans took home the top prize at nine-under-par. This is USC's second team title this year, as it won the Leadership and Golf Invitational (Sept. 18-19) to start the season. USC was one of two teams to finish under par for the tournament, as the last day brought several casualties on the course. However, that did not stop the Trojans as they finished the final day four-under-par.
Â
Park was the tournament's highlight, as she finally got over the hump to win her first tournament. Coming into this event, Park finished in second or in a tie for second three times, including finishing tied for second at the Leadership and Golf Invitational (Sept. 18-19). In round three, she carded her second straight 69 (-2) to win the tournament individually by one stroke.
Â
Freshman Bailey Shoemaker was second on the team as she climbed up the leaderboard for the second straight day and tied for seventh at three-under-par. The freshman found her stroke on the back nine, posting four birdies compared to one bogey. This is her first career top-ten finish at the collegiate level.Â
Â
Junior Xin (Cindy) Kou posted an even 71 on the final day. She birdied her first hole on the course and alternated between bogeys and birdies, as she had three of each. Kou finished tied for 26th, as she ended two-over-par for the tournament.Â
Â
Senior Brianna Navarossa and freshman Frances Kim rounded out the rest of the squad, as Navarossa finished three-over-par and Kim was six-over-par. Navarossa ended up tied for 29th, as Kim was tied for 46th.Â
Â
Up next, USC heads to Atlanta to compete in the East Lake Cup presented by the Golf Channel, Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 at the Atlanta Athletic Club.Â
