LOS ANGELES – Maribel Flores scored twice and the USC women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw with No. 5 Iowa on Sunday night at Rawlinson Stadium.
Flores netted both Trojan goals in the first half, but Iowa came back with two in the second half to even it up. USC moves to 7-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in Big Ten play. Iowa moves to 10-3-4, 5-2-3. The draw gives the Trojans sole possession of 10th place in the conference standings, which would be the final spot in the Big Ten Tournament, heading into the final game of the regular season at UCLA next week.
The Trojans opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Ines Derrien was taken down in the penalty area and Maribel Flores converted the kick for her eighth goal of the year. Flores struck again in the 22nd minute, playing a give and go with Murphy Walsh on the left side of the penalty area and beating the keeper with a shot through the legs to make it a 2-0 lead for USC.
Iowa pulled one back early in the second half when a ball played into the area bounced off a Trojan defender and fell to Berkley Binggeli, who snuck a shot through traffic and just inside the far left post. The equalizer came in the 70th minute, when Morgan Lietz finished a long pass from Kellen Fife inside the right post.
