Lott sets USC freshman indoor pentathlon record
The USC track and field team won three events led by JC Stevenson in the long jump and Johnnie Blockburger in the 200m who set NCAA leading marks and Falyn Lott placed fifth in the pentathlon with a Trojan freshman record during the first day of the Collegiate Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M today (Feb. 7). The other Trojan to win an event today was Nathan Cumberbatch who won the men's 800m race.
- Grad student Johnnie Blockburger won the men's invitational 200m race with a PR of 20.34. His time moved him from eighth to tied for second on USC's all-time indoor 200m list. It is the NCAA leading time this indoor season and with a conversion of altitude to 20.41, still is the current world-leading time. Sophomore Edward Nketia had a time of 21.00 to place ninth and junior Max Thomas had a cramp and did not finish his race.
- Junior JC Stevenson won the men's long jump competition with a PR and NCAA-leading jump of 26-9.75 (8.17m). His jump moved him from fifth to third on USC's all-time indoor long jump list. Junior Jassani Carter had a PR of 23.11 to take second in her 200m heat and fifth overall. All three athletes bettered their times but did not improve their standing on USC's all-time list: White (6th), Moody (10th) and Carter (11th).
- Junior Elias Gerald tied for third in the men's high jump with an indoor PR of 7-1.75 (2.18m). His clearance moved him from tied for fifth to fifth alone on USC's all-time indoor list. Grad transfer Brady Palen had a jump of 6-11.75 (2.13m) to place fifth.
