The most recent matchup came in 2013, when the Trojans beat Nebraska 4-3 in walk-off fashion at home. Â
ALL-TIME SERIES VS UC IRVINE: The Trojans and Anteaters have played 77 times since 1970, with UCI holding a 40-37 advantage in the series. USC took both meetings last year, however, winning 12-5 and 12-4 in a pair of midweek contests. This will be the second meeting between USC and UCI this season, with game one at Irvine going to the Trojans, 5-2. Ethan Hedges hit a grand slam in the 6th inning to give the Trojans the lead, with Grant Govel tossing 5 scoreless innings, not surrendering a hit and just one walk to secure the win.
Â
MIDWEEK WIN AT ARIZONA STATE: Three homers and five Trojan arms combined to hold a potent Arizona State offense in check as USC took down the Sun Devils, 6-3, on Tuesday night. Andrew Johnson got the start and held ASU in check through his 4.0 innings of work. Hedges took over in the ninth, working around a two-out single to record his sixth save of the year.
Â
SERIES AT MICHIGAN: USC took two of three games at Michigan over the weekend, winning the opening two matchups before falling in the finale. The Trojans jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opener and held on despite a late push by the Wolverines for a 7-4 victory. He is also one of two USC players who has reached base in every game this year, and is currently riding a 5-game hitting streak. Hedges also has 6 saves so far this season, a total that is 2nd in the NCAA and 1st in the Big Ten. In 7.0 innings pitched, he has only allowed 3 hits while striking out 7 batters and holding opponents to a .130 batting average. Dowd leads the team with 7 multiple hit games, and is currently on a 4-game hitting streak.

This past weekend, he threw 7.0 innings against Michigan, allowing just 2 runs in the 3rd inning and then only allowing one baserunner the rest of the way as USC came back for a 4-3 victory. His 13.50 strikeout-to-walk ratio is 1st in the Big Ten and 9th in the country, and his 1.05 WHIP is 8th in the conference.
