USC’s Catherine Park Finishes Top Five as Trojans Advance to Match Play

CARLSBAD, Calif. – USC women's golf junior Catherine Park finalized a top-five finish at the NCAA Championships, as the Trojans secured the No. 5 seed heading into match play on Monday, May 19, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
USC wrapped up its four rounds of stroke play within the top eight team cut, finishing four-over par after a four-over par final round. The Trojans counted 72-73-73-74 (292) in the final round, as they tallied 1156 strokes, putting them fifth out of 15 teams.
Park completed a six-under par tournament after posting an even-par final round. The junior entered the tournament three strokes behind the lead and finished six strokes out of the top spot. Park started strong with a birdie on hole No. 1, and followed suit with one bogey and one birdie for the remainder of the front nine. After a one-under par front nine, the junior started strong with a birdie-bogey-birdie combo – No. 11-13 – but found trouble at the end with a bogey on No. 17 and 18.
Park ended her season with 12 of her last 13 rounds being at par or better, and setting a new program record with 26 rounds at par or better this season. The junior also recorded her 10th top 10 finish of the season – another new program record.
Freshman Jasmine Koo recorded her ninth top-25 placement – tied for 20th – after finishing her tournament one-over par. Koo was two-over par on the final day, as she posted six bogeys and four birdies, and ended up one-over par on both sides of the course.
Senior Xin (Cindy) Kou ended her final NCAA Championships tied for 44th at seven-over par. Kou's round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-four No. 11, when she dunked her second shot from around 150 yards out. Kou finalized her day at one-over par, with five bogeys, two birdies and an eagle.
Sophomore Bailey Shoemaker ended her tournament at 10-over par, after a one-over par fourth round, putting her tied for 54th. Shoe
Freshman Kylie Chong had a non-counting score in the afternoon; she was six over par and ended up 16 over par. The freshman ended her tournament tied for 73rd in the field.
The Trojans face off against No. 4-seeded Florida State in the NCAA quarterfinals starting at 6:50 a.m. tomorrow at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
