No. 2 USC Women’s Golf Maintains the Lead at the PING ASU Invitational

Senior Catherine Park moved into the lead after firing a 66 (-6) on day two.
PHOENIX — The No. 2 USC Women's Golf team maintained its lead over the field after the second round of play at the PING ASU Invitational, held at the Papago Golf Club on Tuesday, March 23.
After two days at the par-72, 6,570-yard course, the Trojans are in first with a 552 (-24) thanks to posting a 281 (-7), which was the best round of the day. USC has an 11-stroke lead over second-place Baylor, while host school No. 23 Arizona State, Cal State Fullerton and Kansas round out the top five.
Individually, senior Catherine Park moved into the lead thanks to firing a 66 (-6) in round two. She came into the day in fourth place but moved up with a strong back side that featured six birdies to just one bogey — including a stretch of four in a row to end the round. She is alone in first with a 134 (-10).
Her teammate, sophomore Elise Lee, maintained her spot in second place after firing a 71 (-1). Lee had two birdies with her lone bogey coming on the par-4 No. 3. So far, she is four strokes behind Park with a 138 (-6).
Junior Bailey Shoemaker moved up two places into a tie for eighth after firing a 71 (-1) on day two. Both of her birdies and her lone bogey of the day came on the front side before she held steady during the back side. She and four other players go into the final round with 141s (-3).
Sophomore Jasmine Koo is in a three-way tie for 13th with a 142 (-2). Koo entered the day in the lead but ran into trouble on the back side with three bogeys and a double-bogey on No. 18 to wrap up her 76 (+4).
Fellow sophomore Kylie Chong is one stroke behind Koo in a five-way tie for 16th with a 143 (-1). Chong had two birdies and three bogeys, two of which came on the back side to finish her 73 (+1).
Competing as an individual, freshman Sarah Hammett is tied for 40th place with a 147 (+3).
