BREAKDOWN:
Pe[apos]Shon (PEE-Shon) Howard is a 6-3, 190-pound senior point guard who comes to USC after three seasons at Maryland with a wealth of experience and one season of eligibility. He has played in 84 college games, making 44 starts and posting 20 games with five or more assists. He was granted a legislative relief waiver by the NCAA during the summer to be able to return closer to home to be near his ailing grandmother.
2012-13:
Howard served as co-captain of the Terrapins and averaged 3.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 36 games. Helped lead Maryland to the NIT semifinals, starting all four games and averaging 4.0 assists per game. He was a member of the Dec. 20 watch list for the Bob Cousy Collegiate Point Guard of the Year Award. Howard registered 13 assists vs. LIU Brooklyn on Nov. 16, which were two off the school single-game record...also had a season-high seven rebounds in that game, which he matched on Dec. 2 vs. George Mason. Scored a season-high 10 points vs. Wake Forest in the first round of the ACC Tournament on March 14. He has scored in double figures nine times in his career.
2011-12:
Howard averaged 6.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 14 games (12 starts). Missed the final seven games of the regular season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee. Also missed nine games after suffering a broken bone in his left foot. Grabbed a career-high nine rebounds on Dec. 31 vs. Samford. Scored a career best of 15 points at Temple on Jan. 21. Followed that game up with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists on Jan. 25 at Duke. Had a season best eight assists three times - Dec. 28 vs. Albany, Jan. 8 at North Carolina State and Feb. 1 at Miami.
2010-11:
Appeared in 33 games and made eight starts for Maryland as a freshman. Averaged 5.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Hit the game-winning shot with 4.6 seconds left in win over Charleston on Nov. 10...scored 14 points and had four assists. Made his first career start vs. New Jersey Institute of Technology on Dec. 22 and scored four points and had two steals in 17 minutes. Scored in double figures in three consecutive games with 11 vs. Longwood on Feb. 9, 14 at Boston College on Feb. 12 and 10 at Virginia Tech on Feb. 15. Averaged 8.5 points in 15.0 minutes per game in the two ACC Tournament games. Scored 10 points vs. Duke on 3-for-3 shooting on March 11.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Prepped at Oak Hill Academy and averaged 14 points, 5.5 assists and 3.0 steals during his 29-4 senior season. Oak Hill was 40-1 during his junior season. Was ranked as the No. 39 shooting guard by ESPN.com. Became just the second sophomore starter at Oak Hill for coach Steve Smith. Made 10 three-pointers at Winston-Salem Prep (N.C.).
PERSONAL:
Pe[apos]Shon was born on Dec. 10, 1990. His father[apos]s name is William Howard. The honor roll student was a two-time recipient of the Samuel J. LeFrak Scholarship given out to Maryland athletes who exhibit extraordinary athletic, leadership and academic achievement.
